PALM BAY, Fla. - A mother, father and 15-year-old son died after being electrocuted while putting up a ham radio antenna in their Palm Bay home, police in Florida said Tuesday. The victims were not identified Tuesday morning. Authorities said rescue crews responded to a 911 call about the electrocution Monday evening when they found the three on the ground not breathing. Authorities said the family was attempting to raise the antenna when they lost control of the pole and it hit an overhead power line. The impact sent 13,000 volts of electricity through the pole the three were holding. The woman was pronounced dead at the scene. The father and son were taken to a hospital where they were pronounced dead. moderator1516 cef#0139/cvc#0012 ham#0147-ki4kxl aka:skilletlicker

Wow So Close to home, I'm So glad all my lines are underground, Electric,Cable, Phone and Internet. And all run underground on the same side of the house. Just no digging on that side. I know this happens but being a Ham Father, Mother or the Son, they should have known better. The first thing that is talked about is Safety in getting a Ham License and you hear and read it over and over and it's printed in antenna manuals at least 5-6 times. Sorry we lost a Ham Family. Oh no, I hate so much to hear these things. I can`t believe this happens with all the warnings and knowledge out there about installing antennas. AP |

The man killed was also know as Jamaica 411 on the "Freebands" just above 40. I have made many contacts with him into Tampa FL when conditions were right. "In God we trust. Everyone else, keep your hands where I can see them".
