I just got this radio and best I can tell its like the early magnum 257's Its a single final and has not been expanded and i would like to expand it for 11 meters but the only thing I can find showes a 257 that doesn't look like mine. The mod says unsolder D2 but mine doesn't have a D2 that I can find. The instuctions has a pic and the lay out of the board is different than mine and makes me beleive that mine is older than the mod that i found. I can e-mail pics if needed. Any help would be greatly appreciated Stepchild CEF-187

Well this is what I have for this model, I hope it helps. To have either 10 meter only or expanded operation. Hook up radio to power and turn on for a minimum of 10 seconds. Turn off radio and disconnect from all power sources. Remove Botom cabinet cover. Remove (unsolder) Diode D2. This is the only Non-Surface mount component found in this area. Reset the radio CPU by temporarily shorting the two front panel circuit board pads located near Just Right of Black Potentiometer. Hook the radio back up to power and turn on the radio. Press the FUNC button, then press and hold the CALL button for approx. 3 seconds. The band indicator will appear on LCD. Use the CALL button to select bands. To switch between channel and frequency display, press the FUNC button and press the CALL button. When turned off and on again, the radio will always default to original 10 meter settings. To automatically return to last used frequency and mode, press the FUNC button and then press and hold the CALL button for approx. 3 seconds. Microphone configuration Pin Description 1 Audio 2 Receive 3 Transmit 4 Ground = Channel Down, 2.2K ohm to Pin 3 = Channel UP 5 Ground and Switch common 6 13.8 Volts. Watch it, this is not current limited. Variable RV-1 S-Meter Signal Strength RV-4 AMC, AM Modulation RV-8 RF Output Meter RV-9 ALC, SSB Modulation and Peak Power. RV-14 FM Carrier Power RV-16 AM Carrier Mike Moderator120 CEF#0120/HAM #222 KB1NYD CVC#0041

'child, if you can't find the diode, it may have already been removed. do the reset portion of mike's info above. sometimes after sitting for a long time, the cpu forgets it was modded & needs a reset. |

Pat is right, if the radio sits for awhile it may need to be reset, thanks for catching that Pat. I must be getting old! Mike Moderator120 CEF#0120/HAM #222 KB1NYD CVC#0041
