what makes you think the problem is the squelch? does turning the squelch knob cause/start or in any way affect the problem? if YES, check the connections on the squelch control & to the board, or try disconnecting the wires. you may have to connect the center wire to one of the end wires to allow full receive (NOT squelch out anything). what about the SO-239 connector on the back of the radio? i have seen the inside piece 'disconnect' itself due to taking the coax on & off from the radio repeatedly, also check the connection from inside the radio, from the SO-239 to the board. check the ends on the coax as well. if you are getting 'white noise' due to coax/SO239 trouble, when you key the mic you may not get any output, or it may show up at a different level on the rf meter on the radio.

I have one, the receive at one time was getting low...it was DUST, go buy some cleaner spray for circuit boards, and canned air, take the chassis case off and first take a can of air and spray the board and the variable pots and then spray it with the cleaner and repeat after dried another time..see what happens.
