I have a new Magnum 257 from copper the radios works good on all channels has good audio but the s/Rf meter does not work. I have looked inside because I thought maybe RV-8 was turned off or the receive pot was off but they are not. Does anyone know what it might be? The jumper for the channels is in the comm-3 position and I do not know if this has anything to do with it or not and don't know why it would. The radio works on all channels and all settings and the TX light on the display works and it puts out good power and modulation. This is weird, I have never seen this before on a digital radio. Other than this little problem it kicks but. |

one thing you might of over looked is: make sure your RF Gain is turned all the way up, if it's turned down you will still hear close by signal but nothing will show up on the rx s meter. try that for started and let us know if that was the fix.? George

The Rf gain is turned up, I can here distant stations good I usually keep it all the way up unless I am too close. I can turn the power up all the way to 8 watts and nothing on the meter either but on my tuneup meter it shows 8 watts and swinging towards 30 when I talk. I'm thinking the voltage for the receive and the RF power to the meter has and open short somewhere were they both go together on the board or the display is shot. I was looking at the schematic for a place where they might meet. I need new eyes! The schematic is too small, geese I wish I was 20 years younger! ha ha. I thought I might of overlooked something but I have talked to people 100 miles away and they say it sounds good and I can here them good also but no meter. I appreciate your help I will be checking in just in case someone might know what the problem is thanks again.... |

Magnum 257 meter fixed! Works great! Mscott1212 let me know that if the jumper(shunt) is turned around on the two pins(channel conversion pins) the meter on the radio will not work! I turned the jumper around and put it back on the pins and wallah! The meter works like new. I have used many (shunts) jumpers and never had that happen ever. Thanks... |
