I have a Realistic TRC-451 that I have used for a dozen years and I really like it. But recently if I turn the volume past half way the speaker makes a constant popping/grounded sound. The radio has a select switch for internal speaker, external speaker or both at the same time. It makes the same popping sound in all 3 modes. I have chenged the speaker twice using speakers with the correct rating. Any ideas? I really don't want to stop using this mobile because it hears and sounds very good. Thanks Russ Indiana |

well here is an idea try to use electrical contact cleaner on the volume switch if it is an radio that has been used for a few years the pot could be dirty which can cause the problem you described if that fixes it you can expect a life of about 2 more years tops before you have to do it again so if that fixes it eventualy buy a new volume switch and replace it. I did clean the volume pot and still with the volume knob up halfway or more and with nobody talking on the receiver the sound is fine, just your normal background hiss but when I receive someone that is showing a 2-3 or above on my s-meter thats when the sound starts popping like a way over-amplified car stereo driving a cheap speaker. But like I stated the speaker is fine and so are the 3-external speakers I have tried on the radio with the same bad results. |

Thanks Flying cloud, I did try your suggestions and the speaker still breakes up when I turn the volume up loud enough to be able to hear without being right next to the speaker. It's like whatever supplies power in the audio section is shorting out. |

Ak3383 I just got a 451 today and it does the same thing. It motorboats at higher loud signals especially over 1/2 volume level. I've replaced all the tantalum's and every electrolytic in the radio, still does it. If I find an answer I'll post it. If anyone else knows, please post. |
