Hello, I have a question about SKIP when did people started noticing it? I don't remember anyone saying anything about SKIP in the radio and even people i knew back in the early 90's. I just went through my first SKIP about 1/2 hour ago. I heard stations from florida, south carolina, georgia, tennessee... I didn't get to talk to anyone with my little 4 watts but it was great listening to all those stations in so many channels 11,15,22,28,38 LSB and i think 17. CEF#1021

Nightlinks, SKIP started before the very fist radio Ham/CB was ever invented/built. ie: From: Wikipeda / the free encylopedia. In radio propagation, skip refers to a radio signal being reflected or refracted by the atmosphere or ionosphere, and returning to Earth in far away locations. This phenomenon happens often with AM radio, enabling listeners to hear broadcasts across long distances. Hope this help's, Lon ~ Tech808 N9CEF ~ EN50mk

Nightlinks, The solar cycle runs in a 11 year cycle and right now we are in: Cycle #24 which started January 4, 2008. As it get's toward the peak condition's will get better and then start back down. You can get more information on the solar cycle #24 by doing a GOOGLE search for: Solar Cycle 24 Sorry but there is just no way to determine when skip will happen. For a Daily Solar Report on expected condition's you can go to the LINK on the Main Copper Web Site here to the LEFT of the Copper Forum here titled: CEF Net Join Membership List CEF Times *Solar Report* Text Chat Room And CLICK on it. While it is NOT 100% correct all the time it is pretty accurate. And condition's change hour by hour depending on the area you live in. Good Luck! Lon~Tech808 N9CEF~EN50mk CEF#0808~CVC#0002

I can remember my Dad talking skip in the mid-sixties here in central Indiana to all over the country even to Japan. He bought a new set of Brownings 23/S-NINE transmitter and R2700A receiver in 1962 and ran them through a set of double stacked Mosely beams. He didn't have an amplifier, just the radio's 4-7 watts. I am lucky enough to have those Brownings today and use them daily. Skip is alot of fun, it comes and goes day or night. |
