Hi folks, UK DX CBer new to the forum here, my trusty old antron 99 bit the dust a while ago snaping on the metal reinforced mounting sleve at the U bolt point during gale force winds, it was left hanging on its internal coax tail and the unwound coils, deciding it was time to rebuild/repiar I searched the internet for an internal diagram and found the very interesting artical "The Antron 99 EXPOSED! By TECH 833, is this the same Tech 833 whom is a mod. on this forum? as I could do with some advice on rebuilding the coils preferably to convert this old thing into a 5/8 wave, I have found a local trader who can suply the longer fibre glass tubes and even a longer top whip cheaply if this coil rebuild is possible? Hope somebody can advise. Dont know if this makes any difference to the possible conversion but I also use the antron ground plane kit as I have hight restrictions at my location. regards Phil. |

Hi Phil, Welcome to the forum. Yes it's the same person (Paul). Give him some time and he will answer your question with the best answer you will ever fine. He is the best expert when it comes to antennas. Again give him time to see your post and again welcome to the forum. 73. I have to wonder about the cost of rebuilding compared to the cost of replacing and if rebuilding is economically viable.. Simon Tech237 N7AUS

Back agian, spent a good few hours reading all the antenna posts and reviews here on the forum and can I just say a "BIG THANK YOU" to all you gurus, I can actually understand about 90% of whats going on now, unlike a lot of the old published and uploaded documents here in the UK. Just to clarify a couple of important points I have to explain the antron was mounted on the house when it snapped and now we live in our 30'static caravan due to myself being slightly disabled in one leg and hip I find it much easier to get around and my brother-in-law being medicaly discharged from the army and needing a house for his family to reside in back in the UK desperately, so we decided to stay up in the hills and let them have the house. We are in a country park in the Northumberland Hills a place of outstanding beauty and masts/large antennas are not realy permited so buying a new one here in the uk will not be worth it, the actual tubes are very cheap, only a few pounds but after reading a post from Marconi (I think) where he replaced the FG poles with a length of wire from the matching stub I began to think "Aha" look at that big tree outside the caravan with an overhanging branch about 60ft above me! So a few easy answer questions (I hope) At which point of the A-99 does the power radiate? If I rebuild the matching and inductance feed coils and run a half wave wire vertical up to an overhanging branch can I use a lesser guage wire as I never use more than 60W TX power? Can I dispence with the coupling capacitor if I build my own similar matching unit for testing? How can I calculate (easily) how many turns in each coil (feed and matching) for each different wave of antenna? What I have so far is- A-99 Half wave outer inductance coil turns 18 inner matching coil turns 9 Imax 2000 .64wave outer 10 turns iner ? turns For 5/8 wave outer ? Inner ? Full Wave! is this possible and is it beneficial in any way? Hope all this is not too long winded for the forum but I would realy like to get back up and running before the bands open here in the UK. 73s Phil. |
