Can anyone give me any advice on tuning a Wilson 1000 antenna for 10 meter voice (28.300 to 28.500)operations. I will be receiving my antenna this coming week from copper. I see that Wilson says to cut 1 inch or so off the stinger to achieve proper swr match. If that is all I have to do then it should be easy. I won't be using this antenna for cb operations so by cutting the stinger I am hopping to get the lowest possible swr between 28.300 to 28.500. Thanks, Mike Mike Cef#1011 KD8HBS

Go bt the manual and you should be set. I use a Wilson 1000 mag on 10 meter mobile and works good. Good Luck and hope to hear you on 10 meter with it. 73 George/KI4NBE/Starface CEF Ø476/CVC ØØ14/CEF HAM Ø181 CEF Southeast Net Controller

Try tuning the AT with a lenght of wire about the same size, and when the stinger get there you won't have any problem like cutting the new stinger too short. |

Marconi, not sure I understand how to tune my antenna with a length of wire? Are you telling me to get a 62inch piece of wire and stick it into the antenna in place of the stinger and cut the wire according to swr readings I desire? Mike Cef#1011 KD8HBS

check your swrs on 10meters BEFORE cutting anything.i used mine on 11 meters but for kicks i checked it on 10meters woith a mfj259 and it was a 1.7.1 without any trimming.so id only trim about 1/4 of a inch to start, cut the bottom of whip.i used bolt cutters with whip in a vise.carefull as the tiny pieces do tend to fly grinding wheel works wonders also dale/a.k.a.hotrod cef426 cvc#64

Upon hooking up my antenna my swr was a 2.5 on 10 meters. I got out my bolt cutters and trimmed away as needed until my swr was 1.5. I probably could have gotten a lower swr if I kept trimming but I am happy with a 1.5 for now. Now all we need is some conditions on 10 meters. Mike Cef#1011 KD8HBS

Might get another stinger and cut it a bit shorter then the one you have now to see if the swr goes lower or starts to climb again. this way you will know just where the best swr is in case you ever need another stinger. I think this Sunday I will try to fine tune the antenna more. I am not sure how much more I should have to cut to drop the swr from 1.5 to around 1.1 to 1.2. I'll try to cut a small portion and see if the wave drops more. I wanted to cut more the first time but I had already cut around 2 inches and was worried that cutting anymore would start to raise the swr. O ya my antenna is a trunk lip mount not a mag mount.....I don't know if that makes a difference or not. Starface do you know where I can get another stinger for the wilson. Does Copper sell just the stinger? Mike Cef#1011 KD8HBS

Mscott1212, Run a ground wire from your trunk lid to the frame and you may find you do not need to cut the stinger. Remember GROUND EVERYTHING. Lon ~ Tech808 N9CEF ~ EN50mk

Thanks I ran the ground and my swr is now around 1.2 to 1.3 between 28.300 and 28.500. I also get a swr from 1.9 on channel 1 on the cb to a 1.5 on channel 40 on the cb. Pretty nice. I have another whip for just cb and I get a swr of 1.2 to 1.3 on all 40. The grounding really helped me out. Mike Cef#1011 From the Great Lakes State
