I have been active in radio since the early 70s and have owned both fiberglass and aluminum antenna. I think that there are advantages to both and they are widely debated here on this forum. Since the tower seems to get higher and higher, I have been using fiberglass antenna like the antron 99 and Imax 2000 due to their ease of assembly and installing them with the standing wave set pretty much from factory. They have a wide band coverage and are astetically pleasing to operators and non operators alike. In fact I have to point out that there is one on my tower to most people. Regarless of what you hear, these antennas work well and can be maintained over years with some fine sandpaper and fiberglass resin and effort. |
