I have read numerous posts about replacing the voltage regulator with an upgraded one...ect. If this radio is properly modded with NPC swing mods and upgraded regulators what kind of performance can I expect? I would want the rf power variable to adjust from as little as 0 watts and swing to full output. What are these radios capable of as far as swing goes on the Bird 43 and Dosy wattmeters? I certainly do not want the add a final mod because if I wanted a dual final radio I would buy one. I just heard that the mosfets don't do the average swing watts that the 1969s do. Help me in the decision making process. Politicians spend other people's money like drunken sailor's!

I just want the capablility of turning down to 0 watts, I am not saying I will use it that way. I have a few Cobra 148 and Uniden Grants with single 1969 finals that will key as low as 0 and swing to 8-9 Bird 43 watts. Most of my driver/amp combos produce the keys that I like for riding around at 1/2 watt input dk. I just want a single final radio that will drive the heck out of the amps for stock mobile keydowns. Audio quality won't be much of a concern. On some other forums 959 owners claim 40-60 watts peak with these radios well tricked out but of course most of these operators tell big fish stories or have seriously fouled up wattmenters. If you "volt" the final, you don't have to change the regulator (Q54 2SB754). twowatt |
