I'm sure they have they same freq coverage. The 45 has a few extra features like echo and the modulator circuit. The 257 has more power than the 45. Both the radios have only a 5 digit freq display. A sidebander really should have 6 digits. Any regular SSB user knows this is neccesary. Both are great radios but I would have to go with the 257. Ok this boilds down to are you a HAM ..... IF .... your a ham you will never use a echo board so why pay for it. I run HTX-10 and have for 15 years ( its the ham only ver of a mag-257 ) and have worked the world on it . I also have a mag-257 again a solid little radio. In my opinion the Mag-257 for more than $50 less is the clear winner. Bruce On 6 since 66

they are exactly the same, less the frills on the omega. i have a delta, 257 & S9. i only use the 257 mobile on 10 meters, the other 2 base only, CB & occassional 10 meters. FORGET the power mic on either of your choices-the stock mic sounds FAR better. it took an AWFUL lot of tweaking to get a shure 526t to sound good on my delta, & the stock mic STILL sounds better, though not as LOUD as it was before the tweaking. my 257, mobile, approx 50 watts on SSB got nothing but GREAT signal reports on 10 meter e skip last season & this that just past. i doubt i made a dozen calls that i did not get a reply to! trust me, when the skip is crankin', so am i! they really do talk GOOD. their receivers, when mobile, are not exactly what i'd like, base they are fantastic though. i think either is a good choice! |
