HELLO GUYS...I HAVE A 2008 CHEVY IMPALA LT,AUTOMATIC,3.9LTR. ENGINE...WHEN I USE MY MAGNUM 257,EVERY FEW CHANNELS ALL I GET IS A CARRIER OF ABOUT AN S-9...NOT ALL CHANNELS ARE THAT WAY,JUST EVERY FEW. THIS HAPPENS ONLY WHEN THE CAR IS RUNNING...WHEN THE CAR IS OFF,ALL IS FINE ON ALL CHANNELS..I AM ALSO USING A WILSON 1000 MAG. MOUNT ON THE TRUNK....SWR'S ARE GOOD AT ABOUT 1.3/1 ACROSS THE EXTENDED 11 MTR. BAND...THE POWER CONNECTION IS AT THE BATTERY...HAS ANYONE EVER HAD THIS HAPPEN TO THEM? A FRIEND OF MINE HAS A 2003 CHEVY MONTE CARLO WITH A 3.8 LTR. ENGINE AND HAS THE SAME PROBLEM USING A GALAXY 95T AND A WILSON 1000 TRUNK MOUNT ANTENNA....ANY AND ALL FEEDBACK FOR THIS PROBLEM WILL BE HELPFULL....THANKS MIKE |

ground Ground and more Ground!
Trunk lids are not really grounded anymore, try running a short ground from trunk lid to main body. Then make sure the body is grounded to the frame. Just a thought

#1 ~ Your trunk lid may not be grounded well as it may have plastic washer's in the hinges.
#2 ~ If you new GM car has onstar that may also interfere when key is on.
#3 ~ Check with your Service Dept at the dealer you purchased it from to for GM CB Instalation Updates.
#4 ~ The newer car's and truck's ARE NOT CB friendly.

YES,WAY AHEAD OF YOU...I DID RUN A GROUND WIRE TO THE MAIN BODY OF THE CAR FROM THE TRUNK LID...STILL THE SAME.....REMEMBER,ITS NOT ALL CHANNELS BUT EVERY 2 OR 3 CHANNELS THAT HAVE THIS ODD CARRIER WAVE OF AN S7 TO AN S9....THE OTHER CHANNELS ARE FINE,GOOD RECEIVE AND GOOD TRANSMIT WITH LOW 1.3/1 SWR's...I DO HAVE ON STAR BUT THE PROBLEM IS ONLY WHEN THE CAR IS RUNNING,WITH THE KEY IN THE ASSESSORY POSITION,BUT NOT IN THE RUN POSITION,ON STAR IS STILL ON AND THERE IS NO PROBLEM...I DID TALK TO THE GUYS AT THE DEALER BUT THEY HAVE NO IDEA,THE SERVICE MANAGER SAID,"WHY THE HECK WOULD YOU WANT A CB IN THE CAR ANYWAYS"!...ITS A SAD DAY WHEN YOU CANNOT EVEN PUT A CB IN YOUR CAR ANYMORE,IVE BEEN INTO CB SINCE THE LATE 70's AND I HAVE ALWAYS HAD A RADIO IN MY CARS. I USED TO LOVE TO GO TO SOME OF THE HIGHER ELEVATION HERE IN NJ,SET UP A PORTIBLE BIG STICK AND SHOOT SKIP TO THE WEE HOURS OF THE MORNING. I would start with figuring out how the interference is getting into the radio. Unhook the antenna first and see if the noise is still there. If the noise is still there then you know the antenna is fine. It is most likely coming in on the power wires or the radio is too close to the interfernce source.
Sometimes the Magnum power cord filters work, this might cure your problem. I use one and they are pretty good.
Get rid of any extra length of power wires. Don't roll them up and tuck them away, cut them and only use what you need for reach.
You got to play around with how you install the radio, get creative. Move the radio around while its on. Move it to the back seat and out the door and listen for the noise. You could even power the radio with a seperate battery while it is still in the car just to give you an idea of how this interference is getting into the receiver.
Late model cars are full of really cool and neat devices that wreak havoc on radio receivers. You got car alarms with the little key chain remotes which many actually share cb channel 23. Ever listen to channel 23 during heavy skip propagation? Computers galore that aid in everything from how you steer and brake traction control you name it its in there. I hope you figure it out man, good luck!

HELLO AGAIN GUYS...WELL FIRST OF ALL,ITS NOT A NOISE LEVEL,ITS MORE OF A CARRIER...JUST LIKE SOMEONE WAS ABOUT A MILE AWAY AND WAS KEYING DOWN ON THEIR RADIO GIVING ME A DEAD CARRIER ON MY RADIO...IVE MOVED THE WILSON AROUND THE CAR,THE ROOF,THE FRONT HOOD WITH THE SAME AFFECT. I DID RUN A GROUND WIRE FROM THE TRUNK LID TO THE CAR ITSELF,NO AFFECT...LIKE I SAID,I ONLY GET IT WITH THE CAR RUNNING AND JUST EVERY 3 OR 4 CHANNELS,THE OTHER CHANNELS ARE "CARRIER" FREE WITH A NORMAL S-1 OR S-2 NOISE LEVEL...THEN I HOOKED THE RADIO UP TO MY BASE ANTENNA,SAME CARRIER WAS THERE...I THEN HOOKED THE RADIO UP TO A POWER SUPPLY,NO CARRIER WITH THE CAR RUNNING OR SHUT OFF. THIS IS VERY VERY PUZZLING TO ME,IVE BEEN INTO CB RADIO SINCE THE MID 70'S AND NEVER HAD THIS PROBLEM B4...I JUST DONT KNOW,JUST DONT KNOW....MAYBE JUST LIKE TECH 808 SAID,"NEW CARS AND NOT CB FRIENDLY".....ANY AND ALL OTHER COMMENTS WILL BE HELPFULL TO ME IN THIS MATTER.... |

It comes in on the power wires. Get one of those magnum power cord filters. That is probably about all you can do.
You been into radio a while, ever heard of the 12 volt condensor trick? Wire it to the positive power lead and ground the condensor to the radio chassis. Worth a shot.

Hey Mike. I have an 08 Impala also, with smaller v 6 engine. I run Wilson 500, run power through just the lighter plug, but do NOT have any problems. I run 40 channel cb's and swap them out all the time, depending on where I am going on business trips. Have you tried another radio to see if it is doing the same exact thing? Try that, cause if it does not, then something could be wrong on the radio itself. I have mine mounted on side of console on passenger side, as there is no room on driver side. My swrs are like: well let us put it this way....the needle just barely moves on 1 or 40 and you really have to look hard to see it move on 19 or 20. I do NOT have a ground running from the trunk lid to the frame. I will be interested to see if you hook up another radio if it still makes the carrier show up.

Hotwires tip will work, BUT I always have added a 1M resistor in series with the grounded lead of teh capacitor. Apart from forming a delay circuit it also protects you from the unlikely (but has happened) occurence of a capacitor shorting out. In this event the resistor restricts current flow to almost nil.
