I will start by saying i bought this radio new years ago then it meet my wife and well it went poof quick. around 3 years ago she unhooked the browning and hooked this mirage up and well she hooked it up backwards. well instead of unplugging it(she used the wrong cord)she left it smoldering and came to get me from outside(never said she was bright but the radio was). well here is the probblem i fixed the radio back to great working order but it has 1 lil quirk about it when the volum is turned up it starts to cut out. i have tried it with headphones ext speakers with no luck still choping recive, it took months to get this thing going again(only on spare time) but know it is the recive thing, it has been a year or so sence tha last time i used it and still loud as heck and plenty of forward swing just needto fix recive any ideas will help... and for the laugh this thing had about 1.5' of flame coming off of it NICE PRETTY BLUE FLAMES but like i said transmit is good just messed up recive. ps had her get her own equipment to blow up the golden screw driver on the golden build radio

I would check all wires and connectors inside for fire damage. Also solder joints need a look at as well. With that much fire I would say your lucky that it works at all not to mention the car did'nt burn up! KEEP IT REAL! Kenny cef491(27.115lsb) 2sf491(27.555usb) Indiana

IT WAS NOT IN THE CAR IT WAS ON MY VERY FLAMIBLE BURROW.I have replaced every burned wire and every burt component i could find/test/smell, i dont now what it is but i have had a felling for a while thhat it has somthing to do with the ANL/NB CIRCUIT?????? but like i said it works great just at very low levels of recive, And also when a reciving signal is to high? it will chop????. not a biggy i have too many darn radios anyhow but i dont like haveing radios that dont work right the golden screw driver on the golden build radio

If the high receive signal jumps back to zero on your S meter, check the AGC circuit, and the signal limiting diodes at the beginning of the receive section (before the 1st RF amp). If the high receive signal stays high, but the volume cuts out, then yes, check the ANL/NB circuit, and also replace the caps in the audio section -- it is possible a cap is 'arcing' internally with the higher peak voltage. regards |
