I just recvd this radio (TS430S); it came with no power cord. I purchased a replacement cord that came with the correct plug (2 were included with the cord); the plug has 6 holes which mates with the radio fine; however there are only 4 wires (2 red and 2 black; both fused) to insert into the plug. Would anyone know which holes the red/balck go into? The male receptacle on the back of the radio has 6 pins (I was expecting 4)... I'm afraid to put them in the wrong position. My understanding on the plugs is that KW standardized them later on to 4.... earlier radios had 6 pins. The back of the radio isn't marked at all ( hot or ground). I did recv the original manual and schematic but it does not address the pin layout at all.... Any help would be appreciated. Joe |

Joe, I have a TS 430s also and I just looked at the power cord. Mine is black with 4 round holes on the right an 2 round with a flat edge on the left( if it is plugged into radio) the holes are in 3 rows of 2. with plug plugged into radio the far right 2 holes(top and bottom) are where the RED wires go and the 2 just to the left of that(top and bottom) are where the BLACK wires go. the far left have NOTHING in them. Hope this helps Tech565/Ham243 Net and Asst. Net controller CVC#38

Thanks Tech... just the info I needed! Now I have another question; I can't get it to transmit on any freq or band.... I can get a carrier but no modulation. It has the stock hand mic (MC42S); seems like I have to push in HARD on the button to transmit (mic ptt); It will show 40 watt carrier on AM, but the Freq disp will quit until I unkey (no modulation at all).... was wondering if it may be the mic giving a problem.... unfortunately I don't have another mic to try with it. Vox is off; the receive seems to be dead on. Any suggestions? This is my first venture into a true ham rig, and I am not much of a tech person.... |

What size power supply are you running? I would recommend at least a 20A power supply. I had that problem once before and I changed from a 10a to a 20a and solved that problem of the freq display going out. I would see if you could borrow another mic. Seems like the one you have is sticky and could be cleaned also. Tech565/Ham243 Net and Asst. Net controller CVC#38

Thanks again Tech 565; power supply is a new Diamond 40 amp; but I did find the problem... Inside one of the mic pins was a tiny piece of packing foam (found after a couple of hours) apparently preventing contact... weirdest thing I've come across, after blowing it out (after some really tedious picking) all is well!! Thanks for your help!!!!! |

Joe, You are welcome. Glad you found the problem as I have never encountered a problem like that. I hope you enjoy that 430 as much as I do mine. Hope to hear you on the airwaves soon! Tech565/Ham243 Net and Asst. Net controller CVC#38
