I saw a post......somewhere on the net that you could change something inside the radio for a richer sound quality during transmission. I think it was just a resistor change to increase the band with of the radio to produce a sound closer to studio quality. Anyone else heard of something like this. |

I vaguely remember something like that. I think it was a mod for a lot of radios including amateur radios not just the Cobra. A lot of jokers i have spoken to over here have said the easiest mod is a HEIL microphone. Some of them run at 4 to 500 bucks over here!!!! Depends on how much you want to spend on quality i suppose. They are made in Illinois so would be heaps cheaper to you lot. Regards, Bob. CEFFFCEF Bob CEF703/CVC26

I would opt to add a quality mic than chop up the radio. Move along. Nothing to see here.........

If you take your time and research what you find there are tons of mods for the Cobra 2000 on the net. Actually the Cobra 2000 has a good rep for its audio quality as stock! May not like what you get modding it out. I would play around with different mics first. Kenny CEF491 Reading the mail around Indianapolis Indiana!

This is the info I have on it: Replace R114 (27K) with a 10K Replace C46 (.022uF) with a .2 monolithic This mod works very well. After i did it to my 2000 a local thought i was talking on an old Collins transmitter, it sounds that good! It also seemed to bring the modulation up because i had my friend talk on it while i was listening from a few miles away and i could really tell a big difference before and after. I even had him to turn the mic gain back to 12 because with a D-104 just barley turned open it was a little to loud for my taste. The only thing i changed was the R114 and have not felt the need to change C46 although i may try it just to see if there is a change. |
