Anyone tried to open bottom section? There is something wrong with coil in my antenna and I need to open it and fix that. Antenna has applied too much power and it seems that soldering inside broke. Mike |

You'd better off buying a new one. Move along. Nothing to see here.........

I agree, not worth the time, once an antenna goes bad to over powering it will never be the same. less pain in the neck to buy a new one. George CEF#Ø476 KI4NBE Amateur Extra HAM#Ø181 CVC#ØØ14

It's impossible to buy that in my country. Shipping overseas worth more, than antenna itself and nobody from USA wants to ship to Poland. Does not matter antenna or power cord. Nothing. Mike |

If the antenna was burned by too much power and it is a true vertical dipole that has two pieces that are about the same length as I suspect, then do a continuity check on the bottom section. Check between the feed point and the metal hub end with a OHM's meter. You should find the feed point center pin showing continuity to the metal hub at the top end and the shield side should show no continuity to this hub. If neither point shows continuity then something is broken or burned. If both center and shield shows continuity then the antenna probably has a matching coil inside and that would likely be housed in the very bottom of the antenna. I'm not sure, but the antenna is probably put together using a heat sensitive glue at the metal hubs. Try to apply some heat from a hair dryer or carefully use a soilder gun and see if the glue softens. If it does, then you could soften the glue and lide the top hub off of the FG tubing and maybe see some damage. Since you are overseas, it might be worth a try. I don't know for sure, but I don't believe there is a complicated matching device inside that may be a problem to repair if it was burned. If the antenna is two piece then the inside is probably just a wire in the top section and probably RG-8X coax inside the base section. What have you got to loose trying to take it apart. If you can take it apart, then please let us know what you find inside, OK? |
