2290's are rated at 90 watts a piece soooo ,90 watts x 4 = 360 watts!!! If you have enough power to run them better to go 2879's that are 120 watts each! KEEP IT REAL! Kenny cef491(27.115lsb) 2sf491(27.555usb) Indiana

if you plan on using that omega, dale, do like 'wire says-'If you have enough power to run them better to go 2879's that are 120 watts each!'. the 400 is best with a stock 4 watter. |

not for long, the four 2290's in the dx400 won't take the abuse-and wattage-that the 2879's in the dx500 will take. 2290's take about one half the input 2879's will take, and get you only 2/3 the power. this is not to say you can't use a dx400 with the omega-you can if you're careful. for a few extra bucks, get a 500. if it's too much output, back down the input carrier & mic gain from the radio even more. my cousin ran an OLD dx400 with an OLD president grant export doing 40 watts PEP for YEARS. he had a small fan on the grant & 2 fans on the TS. mic gain backed down to 30 PEP on SSB & he got 350 PEP. 40 PEP got almost 400 from the amp-and that infamous burning transistor smell. that amp still kicks butt to this day....he doesn't. |

thank-you pat.thats what i really wnted to know i know the 500 is a great matchup but if one is carefull enough can he/she make the 400 work aswell.and ya answered thati was only gonna put 15 maybe 25 watts PEP on ssb.i wouldnt even try it on am,with the 400.ive read MANY post about this subject.but none of them really said weather ya could or couldnt make it work dale/a.k.a.hotrod cef426 cvc#64

I have been running my S6 into my dx 400 since i got the radio with no troubles at all i allways keep an eye on my amp during long keydowns with people but it doesnt make hardly any heat to worry about so i havent worried about mounting a fan on it yet. i run a 1 watt dead key into the amp and let her swing up from there , and 90% of the time i have the top gun on. Knock on wood so far so good. if it ever kicks the bucket i have pretty good hand full of 2979's ill just to put four of them in it . CEF# 961 Local Handle CopenHagen Getting down like charlie brown
