Hi All, I am the proud owner of a General Grant mobile radio, but it has a problem. On USB, every time I key the mic there is about a 1 to 2 second delay before the radio transmits at full power. Any ideas? For the first 1 to 2 seconds of every mic key, the S-meter does not move, and there is hardly any RF output. Relay that needs adjusting? Please help Thanks. |

On SSB, there should be no "swing" or movement of the meter needle until modulation begans. Does it move to show output when you modulate? "In God we trust. Everyone else, keep your hands where I can see them".

Hi Capt, as described there is a delay on TX only on SSB - if I key the mic and whistle into it straight away the radio should TX and the s-meter should move with my whisles or voice peaks as it does in all my radios. This radio, the Grant there is a delay of 1-2 seconds every time I tx on SSB. The grant has a built in amplifier - it is as if the amplifier has been adjusted to have a SSB delay and that it needs re-adjusting to stop the delay - however, as far as I know this is not possible as the amp has no adjustments... Any ideas please?? |

does the length of delay change if you lower power? never diagnosed that type of problem in a built-in amp, but there has to be SOMETHING to delay SSB from unkeying too soon, probably a capacitor. i've seen the OPPOSITE problem-a delay in 'receive' or actually 'unkey'-if an SSB station keys quick after you unkey, he gets cut off. try contacting GRTS on this forum or call galaxy service & describe the problem as 'IN A GALAXY 95t', NOT a general grant. they may have some info for the 95-they ARE the same radio. |
