Lons right KLV amps are good you dont hear bad reports about them. NOW JUST MY OPINION ....... REMEMBER AMPS ARE NOT CHEAP ...... Any MIRAGE amp should be avoided ..... I had one quit even with a extra cooing fan and only being used on 2 meter SSB ..... they are well know to do just that. I don't abuse them and mine died anyway. Bruce On 6 since 66

I run the RM Italy VLA-100 and find it to be a good amp on 2m SSB ( I don't use it on FM because I don't need the power for FM). Clean audio reports. Another good 2 meter amplifier is the TE Systems line. I agree with Bruce on the Mirage amps. They tend to blow up pretty easy. I wouldn't buy another Mirage, but I would buy another KL or TE. If you can still get one I would recommend RF Concepts, had one for years,30 watts in 170 out they also had a very nice Gasfet preamp, worked like a charm Bob CEF451/VE1CZ Robert L. Spicer The days of radio are just beginning!

Rf Concepts, TE Systems, RM Italy are very good. I Have an RF Concepts amp and it works fantastic. I have heard 2IR473's 2M amp first hand and can vouch for the fact that it is very clean and works very well. I do have 3 Mirage amps. My advice would be to try and stick with an older version (tan and brown faceplate w/ slide switches) which were much better made. Two of my Mirage amps are the older versions, one for 220 mHz and a B3016 for 2 meters that is really an old workhorse. I too have heard and read that the newer Mirage amps are not built nearly as well,.....But,..I do have a newer Mirage B 108G that has been in virtually daily service on my crossband link for going on 4 years with absolutely no problems. The SWR on the 2M side of the link system is 1:1 and the amp is run rather conservatively at about 35 to 50 watts out normally (on FM) which probably contributes to it's long life so far. It may or may not be 'luck of the draw' with the newer Mirage amps from what I have read, but I think I was lucky. There are higher end (and very high cost) 2 meter amps as well (such as Beko, Commander, etc.) But for normal use those brands are pretty much overkill unless your getting into EME or extreme weak signal work.
