sure, why not! if you can keep the starduster UP, you'll KNOW which direction to turn the beam (keep it vertically polarized! elements 'up and down' for local). if it's 1 or the other, the beam will work just fine locally-you'll need a rotator installed to 'point it'-the only problem will be if you are 'between' 2 stations you're trying to talk to. you'll be aimed towards 1, and 'cutting the signal back' on the other. if you're real close together, it might not make much difference, a farther distance may make it impossible to hear 1 off the side, and real weak off the back. |

I use a beam and talk on it both DX and Local, Now I have them on the flat side (Better for DX). Beams where made for mostly just that DXing but can be used for local too. But as Patzerozero says the only problem will be if you are 'between' 2 stations you're trying to talk to. you'll be aimed towards 1, and 'cutting the signal back' on the other. So it's best to keep the starduster up to get singels from 360° and then after getting the location of the one you want to talk to and then switch over to the maco, you'll then cut out most unwant signels and have more of the one you want to talk with. I apprcaite the info . So would i run 2 different coax lines into the house then connect it to a coax switch or would you connect both (Splice) both ant into one coax. Also if i do keep the starduster up do i need to keep the ground plane attached to it. Just trying to keep the ant looking nice and neat so the nieghbors dont get mad. Well thanks again patzerozero, and Starface Jeff (Blaster) Pittsburgh Pa |

Yes, you would need to run 2 pieces of coax, one run to the beam and 1 run to the omni. Do Not remove anything from the starduster. And then use an antenna switch to use one or the other or both together depending on what type of antenna switch you choose like the DOSY SW-4 listed below.
