Simple test, NOTE! The following information is posted with permisson from Sam Lewis / Magnum International for the MAGNUM XLF-20C & MAGNUM XLF-20M Common-Mode Filtercord. #1 ~ Start the vehicle and listen carefully to your radios receiver noting all interference and noises. Start and stop the various DC switches and motors in the vehicle ie: windshield wipers, turn signals, etc. #2 ~ Unscrew the antenna from the back of the radio and replace it with a dummy load. #3 ~ Repeat step #1 and compare noise/interference level's. #4 ~ Any noise or interference that remains after the antenna system has been replaced with a dummy load, will be reduced or eliminated by using the XLF-20C. Bronzepony, Copper Electronics should have the MAGNUM XLF-20C & XLF-20M Common-Mode Filtercords available and in stock by next week. The MAGNUM XLF-20C & XLF-20M Common-Mode Filtercords are rated for 20 Amps or less. Lon ~ Tech808 ~ N9CEF CEF#808 ~ CEF HAM#001 ~ CVC#002 Tech808@copperelectronics.com

The power cord wont fix your problem. The noise you are hearing is coming in from the antenna, not the power source. Its likely injector noise and you will need to deal with it at the source |

Start here. I know this deals mainly with the 6 liter but it may also work on your 7.3. If it does not help, you may have to add a RF choke to each power wire on your injectors. I cant guarantee that is where the noise is coming from but it is the most likely source. Your injection pump could also generate RF noise.

Electric fuel pumps on Ford trucks can make noise also. With key in ignition switch turn the key just enough to apply current but not turn the starter. If you have electric fuel pump noise you will hear it very quickly. You will need to listen just after you apply current as the noise will be quick but not continous as the current reaches the electric fuel pump. Hope this may help. |

I have a 2003 F350 with the 7.3 diesel. I was able to knock the noise way down by placeing snap on ferrites on the wires coming off of the alternator, and on the coax right at the radio. That, and a whole lot of grounding and bonding. I have a Wilson 5000 roof mount. I might try looking for the injector leads to see if it helps. "In God we trust. Everyone else, keep your hands where I can see them".
