still nothing else on it other than the mod list you have here. my main concern is locating the carrier insertion, although it has AM power im curious if the carrier deviation you have listed adjusts the frequency of the carrier or the amount. any info?

oh i understand that, what i meant to ask is if the carrier balance you have listed adjusts the carrier amount, or the frequency that the carrier transmits. because i dont currently have a frequency counter to put it back on if it moves it over.
but if it does adjust the carrier insertion i could use it to make a variable deadkey, then turn the am power up from where it sits now :o. help D:

The carrier balance has nothing to do with the amount of deadkey you will get as far as I can recollect it is for adjusting the tx carrier center freq , if you want adjustable AM deadkey you will have to remove the variable for the AM power and run wires to a pot of the SAME value as the one you removed on the front or where ever you decide to put it , just remember to use solid cored wire instead of stranded wire as the stranded has got some resistance and might alter things a bit .

the carrier balance adjustment nulls the carrier on SSB modes.

you adjust it by turning your mic gain all the way down, putting the radio in SSB mode, setting the wattmeter on its lowest scale, and keying the mic.

look closely at the wattmeter for any jumps when the mic is keyed.
you may see a very slight jump when the mic is keyed, but it should immediately return to resting after that.
if you see any deadkey wattage on SSB (LSB or USB) you would adjust the carrier balance control so that deadkey wattage disappears.

usually this adjustment never needs tuning unless mods or repairs have been done to the clarifier circuit, and usually not even then.

99% of the time, if this pot needs adjusting, its because someone turned it not knowing what it did.
good luck,
matt

Another way to adjust the carrier balance is to use an swr meter, put the meter in the forward position and set it to maximum, key the mic with no audio and make your adjustment,I have been doing it this way for years and works better, as the swr meter in forward is much more sensitive than a watt meter for adjusting the carrier null.As Kid stated the null does not usually cause any problems unless it's been messed with

Thanks for jogging my memory guys , as Kid says there should be no dead-key wattage on the meter but remember if you are going to check this to make sure that you check it on both USB and LSB modes as it might show no reading on USB but will show a reading on LSB as it is for balancing the sideband suppression between usb and lsb .
