I'm confused? I have always wanted to get my ham license but the code always kinda of scared me off. A few years ago someone told me about a new test one could take called No Code Tech. This could put one on 2 meters the way I understood it. I wasn't crazy over 2 meters so I never took the test. Now I here the rules have changed again. What does one have to do to be able to talk on 10 meters. Is there not any more code test? 10 meters is closer to the way the old ssb cb'ers use to communicate. I went to the ARRL website, but I would like it explained by you guys. Thanks! & i'm probably going to be asking a few questions about equipment and all, because this new stuff is all new to me. The Technician class license will give you SSB privileges on 10 meters between 28.300 and 28.500 which is where most of the SSB activity is anyway. Your Tech licinse will also give you privileges in all the VHF/UHF spectrum as well. 2 meters is probably the most popular, but 6 meters offers some interesting DX capabilities and you will find regular activity on the 440 (70cm) FM band as well. In my area there are two 440 repeater link systems that literally cover hundreds of miles and I know that there are other linked systems throughout the U.S. You would have to upgrade to General class to get SSB privileges on the other HF bands and also for the full band privileges on 10 meters, but you can always decide or study for that later if you want. Again, as Lon posted, there is NO MORE CODE required for any of the ham licenses, so it's just a matter of studying a little and taking the online practice tests. Go for it!!! I am sure you'll have a lot of fun! Good Luck!! Jim CEF-813 K3ZOR OT-235
