I have done this mod with very disappointing results. I did it to the Cobra 25. 2 watt carrier and only 15 watts p.e.p. Way-way over modulated with no way to correct it. I also put one in a cobra 29ltd. 2 watt carrier and 20 watts p.e.p. Same thing with modulation. Anyone help me with this?? I also used one of workman's "replacement" for the 2sc1969. I did it the same way i've done hundreds with the mitsubishi original. It had 2 watts of carrier and 10 watts p.e.p. then within a matter of seconds went up in smoke. Any help would be GREAT!! Thanx, Eric |

eric, please list all of the steps in the mod that you did. dont post a link to the instructions. post the steps in your own words, the way you did them. i dont like the workman replacement part. matt anyone wanting a "clean signal", just look to the left and build one of these!!!

I removed R55,R56,&C61. Put in the EN1230 at R56. Added 68pf silver mica cap at C59. Removed slug from L14. Put in ERF2030 at TR14. That's it!! Supposed to be 9-10 watt carrier with 40 watt pep!! Thanx, Eric |

mod does not work well with a cobra 2000 either.less wattage than 2sc1969. i put a 2sc1969 in my 29 and 30watts pep, also added a varible dead key adjustment as well.i use the vr-4 pot for the modulation to adjust dead key now.it will key 1/2 watt and swing full power or 12 watt key and swing full power.forgot to add the hi and low dead key switch on the anl switch.best results for any 29ltd or nwst |

Thanx for you input Jyd!! I know the 1969 is the best part. But as it becomes more and more scarce i am not gonna pay a fortune to gain a few watts. I wanna get these new and "replacement" parts down now!! |

eric,i had the 2030 done to both a cobra 25 ltd and a cobra 29 ltd with great results by a local tech and a very good one at that, both of these radios smoke and have very good audio with no problems at all but 1,the 25 when you key up and talk the needle bangs the other side of the meter. i would never part with either of these radios for any price |

See, I'm wanting to do it to a few Cobra's I have laying around, but my instructions say to remove R38,R40,C45, install the 1230@r40, 68pf cap@c42 underside, then install the 2030. Supposed to be a strong 40w. Has anyone tried it this way? Rob CEF# 830 Portland, TN

Adam, upon further investigation, it looks as if you did the mod for the Cobra 29. The Cobra 25 mod is different. This is why you are having poor results. Rob CEF# 830 Portland, TN
