Do you mean your voice is muffled, or is there a stray noise along with your voice?? Two different things. A "muffled" sounding audio is one sign of overmodulation, happens alot on ssb. If there is a "stray noise" along with your voice on the receiving end, I would say there is stray RF getting into the audio circuit. Both are issues with those stinger boards if not installed Perfectly. Try backing down the mic gain on the radio with the board turned on, if that doesn't fix the problem read this forum topic...Copper Talk » Subscriber (Preview) » Product Reviews » RM AD-203 Stinger Board » Review...and double check the installation. Also make sure you aren't Overdriving that board. Sean CEF867 Two tin cans and a string, it's still a contact...BTW, I need my can back when we're done!

Actually the mic should not be concedered as the problem due to the fact he is modulating ok with the amp off. Seems to me to be an overdriving problem. That 148 im thinking needs to have 10 watt max swing and a 1 watt dead key. Dead key can go lower as long as it will key the amp at key and not with modulation. I do know forsuer you need to have 7-10 watts max swing into the board. Keep this in mind also, with the mic you are running, with it being a power mic, the radio and amp can be close to being right but the extra modulation from the power mic can becausing the audio to just over do it. Id try and non power mic 1st before anything. If you still sound bad after that, then go into the radio, disconnect the power to the stinger board, check and drop that dead key to 1 watt and makesure it does not swing over 10. That 148, I willing to bet that it is keying 8 or so especially if it has not been moded with a swing kit due to them being natorious for a higher deak key to make them modulate best for sideband. I am no tech for sure, but as I always do, if I have experienced that problem, then I will elaburate on the subject only for hope to help save and possibly solve another members problem equipment. Hope to see you get er done though. I still have my problem radios and have retired 2 to the shelf. Goodluck. thats why i mentioned about what type of mic. a power mic and stinger board combo might be too much.i perfer to use a 2 watt carrier over a 1 watt carrier.but i do agree on 10watts on swing make sure thats on am/ssb both dale/a.k.a.hotrod cef426 cvc#64
