I have an Astatic Echo Max 2000 which I have had for many years. Recently I decided to wire it up to my Uniden Washington (5 pin) After wiring the microphone to the base, I got a bad squeal every time I keyed up. I finally got around to putting a switch inline with the 100 ohm resistor which the previous owner used to put talkback into the radio. After switching the talkback off (verified with another astatic microphone) I still get the squeal.

I again opened up the Uniden Washington and the Astatic Echomax and I've come up with this. The receive wire and the common switch are 0 ohms regardless of whether the microhpone is keyed or unkeyed on the momentary side of the ptt switch. The lock switch does its job without issue.

If I use the "Lock" position to key/unkey the radio I no longer have the audible squeal and the radio works fine. If I use the momentary ptt switch I still get a bad audible squeal.

My thinking is, since the rest of the circuit ties in between the two switches is that I have a bad momentary switch.

Anyone else ran into this problem? Also does anyone know of a supplier for a drop in replacement PTT switch before I go diving into my supplier catalogs.

thanks.

I tried to use the echo max on my Cobra 25 and got the squeel also, but when I used it with my General Lee... no problem at all. I talked to a local cb shop and they were no help. Now it's just sitting on the shelf in the box.
