I was wondering if there was anyway to do away with the high, med,lo switch on this radio and install a rf power knob like somewhere on the side of the radio so i could adjust the deadkey a little better also, the meter on the radio doesn't work this is the second meter i've tried the first would only go about half way and that is if someone was really close.is there a adjustment inside the radio for it or something. Thanks

there are individual adjustments inside the radio so that you can set what power level you want each switch position to represent.
like, LOW-2 watts, MED-4 watts, and HIGH-8 watts.
or whatever you like, within reason.
for HIGH, its VR13. service manual says not to exceed 10 watts with this one. best to heed their advice.
for MED, its VR24.
for LOW, its VR16.
your AMC is VR14. you can turn this all the way up. (as long as the limiter hasnt been removed!)

as for the meter, the adjustment for the receive meter is VR1 for AM/FM, and VR2 for SSB.
adjust these so that someone in a stock mobile hits you with 30 DB about a block away.

for the TX meter, its VR8. adjust it to agree with your external wattmeter.
good luck,
matt
anyone wanting a "clean signal", just look to the left and build one of these!!!
