I'm heading down to the local Ham Radio store in Vancouver,BC. I can't afford new equiptment at this time. What should I be looking for to start off. Handi talk unit or a base unit. I live in an apartment on the 8th floor. I have no balcony. If I use an antenna, it will have to mounted on something in the PC room. I'm going to read that manual and use that test and answer program that I downloaded from Industry Canada off the internet. As well, Can I access CEF net from a repeater in Vancouver,BC?? Or through ehcolink node?? Since I only run local and I do not have my big radio in my truck. I will be missing the net on 27.115 LSB. All these questions... Don CEF#336 CVC#097 Trucker Don

The magnum 257 sounds like a good radio for you, living in an apartment. An antenna to build one is very simple, and will work out good for you, if you want the info let me know and i will look it up in my papers. If you want to work on 11 meters just download live cb radio on the net, it is on chnl 38 lsb and works fairly good also. 73 REVPO/DOCTOR/CEF 795 73 REVPO/DOCTOR/CEF 795 Wavin a hand from the cornfields of INDIANA

I already have the S45 RCI. I'm looking for a small compact radio that I can access from the apartment on the 8th floor. I will not have access to an outside antenna. This unit must be able to access repeaters or run QRP from a mobile antenna in the apartment. A small 2 m plus radio to start I guess. That will get a few bands and yet won't break the bank. Truckerdon, Sorry, but no you will not be able to access the CEF Sunday 6,10,12 Meter Net's thru a repeater or Echo Link. With all of the different Volunteer CEF Net Controler's across the US to cover all of the different areas it would be impossable to use a single repeater or echo link to try and get everyone logged in. My radio is in the locker and I'll be looking for a heavy duty power supply. As I have 2 kickers. Not sure if I should run them as I may cause TVI. Lon says, Sorry No node, No echo link, No repeater's for Sunday CEF Radio Club Net's. But if you can wait just a little bit longer Copper will have a APARTMENT antenna that you WILL be able to use in your APT for the CEF Radio Club Sunday CB and HAM Net's. This Apt Antenna is being tested now and for the last several month's by a Copper Forum Member who also lives in an apt who has been having "GREAT" result's / contact's on the 10/11/12 Meter bands 24/7 with a tuner. Lon asks that you please post all CEF Radio Club Questions in the CEF Net Connections area as that will help other CEF Radio Club Member's that may have the same question's and may never read this topic. As good practice, please keep in mind the RF exposure (to you and your neighbors) in whatever you decide Don. There are RF calculators all over the Internet. Good luck!-- |
