Hello everyone .Ill try this one more time. I just bought a never used Montgomery Ward 719a 40 channel ssb/am radio. It has a d-2824c chip and Im told that it has the same board as the Cobra 146gtl and the Uniden pc244. Id like to know what kinds of mods I can do. Thanks for the help! |

Dimstar, You will need a kit to convert this radio. Check out this link... http://www.cbcintl.com/expander160.htm Steve Tech181 Tech181@copperelectronics.com |

Dimstar, I know they say it can't be done but I have modified my 2 Cobra 146GTL's (which has the D2824 PPL chip) and you CAN change the 10.240 ref xtal to get the freq. you want. Check out my post from today, I mention in detail why this worked. You can find more info in my new post but just wanted to let you know it works I have talked above and below without a problem on SSB and AM. If you want you can e-mail me and I will tell you how I did it. This chassis is fairly narrow banded but I still go over 27.700 with good transmit and receive. Before I put in switches I ordered my xtals with the 'plug-in' bases and added a socket and just pulled the cover and plugged in a different xtal depending on where I wanted to go. -Obie |
