Will the palomar, klv, or the boomer amps work on 12 meters SSB? I have a Ranger 2950dx and want to use it on 12 meters. Which one would be the best for this purpose? Thanks |

Yes...all have broad band RF transformerss that should function through the RF-transistors' specs (usually down to 3MHz) |

I am thinking about purchasing the kl-500 amp to use with Ranger 2950dx. Would this be a good amp to use for 10 and 12 meters? |

This is a HF amp .. it will work properly any were in the HF frequecncy's |

Don The KLVs are the right choice for Amateur bands. Beware of advertised HF amps that are advertised to work on HF, but have bias circuits and Matching circuits tuned for 11 meters. Here are a list of ones that I know of that will work by design. Some Palomars(Most are AM only) Messenger KLV Xforce There may be others, but these are the ones I have seen the inside of. If you search the internet and look up some schematics, you will see that the better amps have seperate bias circuits, and Balanced wideband transformers. or atleast chokes on their bias circuit. There are alot of amps that use fixed resistors, and use LCC circuits to match the line to the transistor. Problem with LCC circuits is they are not as broad banded as transformers. By using fixed resistors, you are also limiting the frequency range that the transistor will work linear. Which is what you want when using an amp for ssb. I hope this helps Phineas |
