Lon - I have an antenna like this one from the early 80's - the slang name given to it back then was the "BASEBALL BAT". |

Sorry but No, as I have No Balcony to mount it on to give it a good test. And mounting it on a tower would not help Balcony owners much. But all a Copper Forum Member needs to do if they have a Balcony is READ and follow the instruction's listed in the Topic in the OPEN FORUM titled: Want to Write a Review or an Article for the Copper Forum? Looks like it's on a mast to me ;) It looks cool for a low profile peak-o-the-roof type of thing on a short mast. Chad CEF 433 HAM 212 not an ego thing, just keepin' the mods happy

I was wondering if the weather on my 78elite would work hooked to this antenna . Moderator Note! If it works on your mobile or base antenna now it should work on this antenna also. |

I ordered one. We'll see what it looks like. I figured, I rented the antenna range in Feb. to test the Penetrator R/S, might as well bring another antenna along too. More efficient use of the funds. |

I received the antenna yesterday. It is REALLY small! I was able to disasseble it without damaging it so I could take pictures of the inside. Feb 18th. I will have it on the antenna range with the v3.2 Penetrator R/S. We'll see what happens. Just from looking at it, I have no clear idea how it will work. |

I have one on order. I think it will do me better than what I'm using now. I have 2 radio Shack 3 foot roof tripods and have some 5 foot mast pipe that I have been using for an antenna mount. And it works good with just 2 sections in the tripod. See I live in an apartment and cant mount an antenna to the building |

RANGE REPORT: I wish I had better news. It is certainly better than a dummy load. It is a lot worse than the dipole. I need to find out why I can't get a good match on it and try again for definitive results that I feel comfortable reporting. For those with no choice (apartment balconies, etc) it is a lot better than an indoor antenna. |

Tech 833 my antenna has a good SWR from 26.305 its about a 1.4 on 27.205 its 1.1 27.665 its 1.1 at 28.555 its 1.4 and thats being only 10 feet off the ground. I did notice that if its close to a building the SWR is not as good as it is being about 20 feet from a building. I havent taken it into the 25.000 or the 29.000 range yet. |

In order to 'spin' the antenna in 'free space' on the range, it has to be mounted horizontally. Maybe the ground below it was causing the narrow bandwidth. Most antennas don't care. This one apparently does. |

I haven't mounted mine horizontally just in the vertical position. You may be right it may not like being mounted horizontally. But in the vertical so far it works well. |

I have one very similar and this new antenna looks/appears nearly identical to it, at least externally. The antenna I'm referring to is the Midland Saturn 39-inch Base Antenna (more recently known as the Workman B-100 Saturn Base Antenna). Can this new version antenna be much different I wonder? |

I ran one of the Midland Saturn versions back in the early 90's for a year. I couldn't put up a permanent antenna so i bough a 5 foot tripod from radio shack and a 10 foot mast and put it up on the pool deck in the back of the house. I used a mobile radio on a power supply with a 1xmrf455 box keying about 15 watts and swinging from there. I was able to talk to my friends who gathered at the beach about 15 miles away. I did work some SSB DX but I cannot recall any am DX. I had reasonable SWR's and don't remember any "issues" during the time of use (about 1 year). A friend of mine in Oregon bought one and has issues with SWR's changing if he gets near the coax. I told him to add a few turns of coax at the antenna feed, but haven't heard back. He said regardless he gets out fine with it. |

I had the Workman B-100 version mounted about 5' above my roof here in the lower Florida Keys. SWRs ran from 1.4 at channel 1, to flat at channel 19 up to 1.7 on channel 40. Very respectable across CB. Then I put a metal roof on the house and SWRs went even lower. Ran totally barefoot - 4 watt AM and 12 PEP SSB. Coax was a 27' run of RG-8X. Radio transmissions were almost exclusively over water. Performance was O.K. Spoke to W/T on a boat 11 miles away. Spoke to mobile 20 miles away. |
