I think the stock mic is fine. What don't you like about it? Have you had the AMC and ALC adjusted to show 100% modulation on an oscilloscope? |

The knock on these radios is that they never sound loud on AM, but I think that they sound nice and clean, which is what I prefer anyway. I've touched up the AMC and ALC in all of my HRadios because from the factory they're adjusted a little conservatively. It didn't take much to get the waveform to a nice 100% shape, but small adjustments can make big differences. You might do a search for Rogerbird's websites if you want to check out audio modifications - and there are lots of them. I think there is a resistor change which results in more audio gain, and that might accomplish your goal. I've never bothered with any of them because I've got an SP-1 installed in my 2510, and it sounds good in all modes with the stock microphone. If I feel the need for more audio, I use an outboard speech processor. |

If you ever get a chance to pick up a discontinued Astatic 575 M6, you will love it. I use one on my 2970DX and the audio reports are excellent. The adjustable tone control is a great feature. I've heard this mic on 2510's and 2600's and it really wakes them up. |
