I am looking for a good linear for a mobile system. I am currently running a Stryker SR440hp. Dead keys around 2 watts swings to around 50. I am looking for somewhere around 200+ watts, and not wanting to spend a small fortune. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. |

Look at the X-Force 200HD or a DaveMade M200. I believe they take that 50 Watts ? With a AM radio with out SSB they should suite your needs. If you might get into SSBing one day , Look at the Magna Force 350, Its a great little amp. |

Thanks for the input, does anyone have a good source for the amps? Does Cooper sell them? If so where can I find them on coopers site? |

I would think having turn down your 50watter just to do 200 is a waste of money. I'd recommend something a little larger to make a difference. A Texas star DX500 comes to mind if you want a unit from Copper. Probably run you around $100 more than a run of the mill 200-250 but at least you won't have to turn down your radio to 20w swing and it will let you take better advantage of what your radio has to offer not to mention the higher quality built in. A DX500 is also in the "safer" zone as far as amp draw goes...much larger and you start taxing your charging system. It will also make a bigger difference over a 200w when trying to get out there on "muddy" days . Just my 2 cents Hank |

Thanks for the quick replies. Question for Tech808 and Vanilla on the Texas star are there any modifications I have to do on this end to make this amp work. Or will Cooper do the conversion for me? If it is something I have to do how difficult is the CW Transmitter To AMP Conversion to do. I was on CB tricks looking at the texas star page. |

I just bought the Texas Star Amp and I've only had it about a week now. I am VERY happy with it. Goes GREAT with my Magnum S9. I didn't have to do any conversion. She worked right out of the box. |

easyturtle, if you buy the amp from copper; then the mod is already done for you. i have to agree with vanillagorilla on this one. going from 50 to 200 watts is going to gain you 1 S-unit on the receive end. to me, thats not really worth the investment. i think the DX500 is a great choice, and that is as small as i would go. 600 watts+ would be great. VG has the key! matt |

With a TS DX500V can I run it without having to get a bigger alternator or extra battery? I have a 100 amp alternator right now in a 90 Ford Taurus. |
