Both post 11 db gain. The Y-quad is shown to have 2.7 surface area and the M103 4.5 surface area. The Y-quad is aprox $145 and the M103 is aprox $105. Will the Y-quad work properly with just the vertical side coax connected? I don't use the flat side. I was just thinking rather that paying a lot of money for a omni why not go with a small beam that has more gain and some rejection. I already have a 40' tower in place. Your 2 cents is needed. Dan |

Only problem with just having a directional is that constant use (rotation) is hard on the rotor and you will get tired of constantly rotating. |

If the local people you talk to are all in different directions an Omni antenna would serve you better. But, it's all up to you and what you want! Good Luck in making your decision...

Yeah, doesn't get any easier than screwing the sections together and it's done... Not my cup of tea, but, may turn out to be a good choice for you. |

I would go with the M-103 . It's a better desighn than the Y quad both electrically and physically. The Horizontal polarization that the y quad offers won't get you much unless you are talking to another LOCAL station that is also horizontally polarized. AS far as skip goes , Polarization fluxuates after the signal bounces of of the ionosphere. Having a directional antenna can be very useful. you can hear and transmit a bit farther and you can turn your back on noise . The M-103 will do a better job than the Y-quad. Why have 2 elements when you could have 3 and for less money? Enjoy! |
