I have seen over the past few years that several long discontinued omni-base CB antennas have been made available again ie; Top One-(Astroplane) ,Skylab (starduster) and maybe another...

It would be nice to see the Superscanner available again as it was a legendary antenna!

A killer performer in the omni setting as far as omni's go!

Is that the one that had like 3 elements and used electronics to make it act like a beam? If it is, that would be a nice one to bring back to life, especially since electronics has gotten so much more sophisticated in the past few years.

Count me in. I'd ditch my Imax 2000 for the Super Scanner. If they build a quality Super Scanner like the old one it would go on my tower. That antenna just made good sense.

I agree it would be great to have that antenna available again. I had one back in the 70's on a 50ft tower and talked all over the world during that skip cycle.
I was fortunate to be in the right place and the right time last fall. A friend bought two of them back in the 70's, put one up on his tower and stored the other in case the first one quit working.
Well the first one is still working as good as when it was installed. I have been trying to buy it for about two years but he would not put a price on it. Last fall I talked to him again and he gave me a price. I bought the Super Scanner New in the factory sealed box.
The MS-119 Super Scanner in now at 50ft on my new tower and is working great.
I used LMR-400 coax with a Polyphaser mounted on a copper plate with a three inch wide copper ground strap going to a ground rod just outside the basement.
If some antenna company would start making a Super Scanner again I think I would have to buy one to keep as a back up in case of a lightning strike.
Its not an antenna for the Channel 6, 20KW+ Loud Croud but for normal CB ops and up to around 400-500 watts they are great.
Hope to contact more CEF members if the radio waves ever get thawed out here in Wisconsin.

73 for now and Have a Merry Christmas everyone.

Mount 2 superscanners on a single mast one above the other with the proper spacing to make an unbelievable colliniar antenna array for 11 meters !

Alighn the elements along the same axis and keep the antenna in the OMNI position. As a "beam" the antenna isn't much to brag about. A regular 3 element yagi will do better.

As an OMNI , this antenna is hard to beat!

You will get incredible ground-wave and DX coverage !

The 2 antennas mounted in this fasion create a rather large assembly so guy lines are a must.

Why not just co-phase 2 5/8 wave antennas inline - one pointed up and one pointed down? I'm surprised there isn't a mount for the Imax2000 to do just that.

I have wondered myself if using two 5/8 wave antennas along the same axis (one upside down)would produce good results.

I think that the lower of the two 5/8 antennas proximity to the support mast may cause a problem. The pattern would be lopsided. Unless you could construct a horizontal side arm mount that would support the antennas about 36 feet away from the main mast.

But the superscanner's 3 halfwave dipoles surrounding a central mast is what makes the super-collinear stack work.

It's AWSOME !

Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to all!

Guys, I still have my brand new one still in the box, that I bought I guess about two years ago now. I ran one thirty years ago in Denver and loved it. Hopefully one day, I will get this one up. Of course Lon and Karatebutcher as well as others on this forum have been listening to me say that I was going to get this antenna put up real soon.

One of these days for sure........

Hi Guys....I'm new here but I saw this thread and thought I would tell you about a friend of mine. He has an Imax up and also a SuperScanner. When we talk to him he will change from one ant to the other so we could check the two ants out. There was/is virtually no difference on the receive end and he claims no difference on his end. He has a chance to get another(used) SuperScanner but he doesn't think he will bother because the price is so low on the Imax and it seems to perform as good or, in some cases, better than the SS. I'm new at this hobby so I don't know anything. But these guys have been around a long time in this hobby and I just thought I would give you their findings.

My uncle has a Super scanner, but, i've never
tested it to see how it would perform.
From listening to the old timers talk about
it, i'd have to agree with you Silverfox.
Was he using the Omni or directional position?

Maybe 1/2 S-unit in the directional position.
But, not in the Omni position. I would highly
doubt it. But, who knows...
Someday i will test it to see.

Yeah yeah yeah, what's a 1/2 "s" unit in trade for maintence and wind loading? I'll stick with the imax. But knowing bruce, that's what I think what he was getting at :-)

chad

the reason they are no longer made is just what you said big, high wind load and small gain .... now on 6 meters i made one for FM and it was great but only 1/2 the size.

And as I posted earlier, it seems that gravity and vibration has ill effects on the bottom sections of these, that would soooo hurt if you got smacked with one falling off :-) EVERY one I see is missing at least one bottom leg!

Those distance station shine on the super scanner. Put it on a rotor and enjoy even more concentrated gain and rid nulls.

I don't believe the super scanner would be as good of an omni as the Imax 2000. In fact, I'm sure of it. As a beam on a distance mobile or base it would pull them in better plus cut out some background noise.
