1861, I tried a V-Quad and wasn't happy with it at all, Go with the M103 or if you can a Comet. The Comet is still light and easily turned by a small rotor. |

1861, the V quad can be best set for either horizontal or vertical.if it is erected in the "V" posistion ,it is a compromise between both polaritys.I had one of the old Wilson V quads(same design) and was never impressed with it.of the 2 choices you listed the M-103 would be the better choice. tech291 cef#291 kc8zpj |

1861, I have a M103 and I really like mine. I have it down right now for checking everything on it to make sure it will be OK for winter. Also when it goes back up, it will be horizontal. I think you would be satisfied with the M103, because you don't have the wire to have to worry about. HARVE Unit199 CEF210 KB0YVK |

YES,Horz would be best for DX. If you have a tower you can mount your Imax above it if you wish. |

What is the range of an m103 compared to lets say a a-99 or a imax 2000. The reason I asked is because of my location. I live on the north west side of the city and everybody that talks on the cb are on the south east some 10 to 15 miles away. With my a-99 they could hear me but lets say i threw them around a 2 to 3 on the meter. What could i expect with the m-103 at the same height around 30 ft. |

Maybe around 2 S-units better than A-99, if M-103 is mounted vertical. If mounted Horz., it may be less than A-99 when talking to locals if they are Vert. You could also consider getting a amp. JIM/PA/CEF 375 |

Nickel ... I agree with Road warror The REAL gain of a 3 elm beam is 6-7 DBD MAX and this would show up as about 2 "S" units on most radios .... "S" meters are very loose. What you gain on TRANSMIT you also gain on RECEIVE to you and the other guy it is a increase of 4 to 1 like going to 16 watts by BOTH of you. Using a beam also allows you to reject noise and distant stations |

Nickel, If you have the room mount yourself a 4 element beam (Vert.) Best bang for your bucks over the A-99. JIM/PA/CEF 375 |

Thats what I wanted to know. The smaller the beam the better for me not much room. Thanks for letting me pick your brain. |

As I look out and up I see a nice PDL-ll in the air, but not doing me a bit of good with no DX conditions to use it. |
