I'm in the market for a new antenna,I currently have a antron but, it has a crack on the bottom section. I can't make up my mind between the Imax2000 or the maco5/8 or another antron. I want something that I can get out far and clear but don't want something that could get broke because of wind. Please help me make my mind up. |

Talltower, Both are great antennas, I personally use an I-Max 2000 and it has withstood 90+ mph winds,Altough it looked like a cheap fishing pole flopping around. Another plus it is much easier to put up and a very broadbanded antenna. |

AS A NEW MEMBER, I READ TECH883'S WRITE UP ON THE IMAX 2000 (WHICH WAS EXCELLENT I MIGHT ADD) I BOUGHT THE IMAX AND HAVE BEEN RUNNING IT NOW FOR A WEEK...SWR'S ACROSS THE BOARD WERE 1.1 WITH NO TUNING REQUIRED. I'VE ALSO NOTICED THAT MY GAINS ON RX ARE VERY IMPRESSIVE AND TX HAVE HAD NOTHING BUT GOOD REPORTS. I HAVE IT SITTING ON MY TOWER @ 55' TO THE BASE AND I'M GOING HIGHER ONCE I REPLACE MY COAX. EXCELLENT ANTENNA IN MY OPINION THUS FAR. |

I would go with the Imax for the ease of installation. It gets out quit well. Also its length is true to the advertisement. My pick is the Mr. Coily Enforcer but @ $450.... ouch! I had very good success with the A99 w/GPK. I had a friend that replaced the A99 w/gpk with a Imax 2000 and I could tell almost no difference between the two @ 18 miles. I must have imagined that with the Imax his signal went down about 1/5 the width of a needle from the A99. But that is what I saw.
It gave me a weird disappointing feeling. On the other hand I had a friend, which is deceased now, that had a moonraker 4 top @ 60' & Imax 2000 top aprox 60'. I was in my mobile @ around 17 miles and I pulled off the road to check his signal between the two. There was only the width of a needle difference (advantage moonraker). Now that blew the mind of both of us.
With all that said, seeing how I am in the market
for a antenna myself, since I had the A99 &
and Maco V58 I am going to get the Imax just so I can say I had one. HEE HEE |

The good thing about a MACO is the ground planes you can mount the maco at 18 feet and hear more station ground wave than mounting an A99 42 feet. The MACO will go up a lot slower than the A99 but the A99 has less wind drag, but brings in more noise in your receiver at the higher elevation........walterb |

I have 0.2 s.w.r.on my Maco 5/8 and great
distence signals. It is not a Blead stick..
And it is only 20'above the peek of the roof.
It is nice not too have ot mount it some 55'ft. |

im a fan of aluminum antennas. i had an old astroplane up in '94 and someone told me to get an a-99, because they "were better". i had it up a week and took it down and sold it. back up went the astroplane. i had an a-99 on the house for 12 years because of ease of installation. just before thanksgiving i took it down and replaced it with a new maco 5/8 ground plane. i currently have a maco 4 element, a maco 3 element and the maco 5/8. i very much like the big ears of the maco. aj |

On 28, 50, 144 and 440 I have measured both aluminim and fiberglass antennas and found NO advantage to either EXCEPT.......
Aluminum tend to allow highter power without failure since most are DC ground and do not use caps and vodoo maching devices to get a 50 ohm output.
Because of size on VHF/UHF you can stack many 5/8 wave antennas in a fiber tube allowing for high gain such as the Workman WOUVS300 which is 8 DBI on 2 and 11 DBI on 440 in a 15 foot fiber tube.
I too like the astroplane and found it works well even at its compact size.
Bottom line you have a wide choice of working antennas .
