Those Fatboy amps are awsome. 18 volts no sweat! A tech around here sells them and I been debating betwween a Fatboy or a Texas Star but the cost is leaning me towards TS. How much was your 5 pill and how do you like its performance and oh does it work on SSB? |

davemade 5 pill on 12 volts will do 800+ pep, 500 rms while keying 250. on 18 volts SHOULD key 400 & swing 1400+. & price is comparable to texas star. as is xforce(EXACTLY the same as davemade). they will take 3-4 watts(or less) to get max recommended carrier of 250 from amp and handle up to 35 watts pep to get 900+ out pep. back mic gain of S9 off just a tad on AM or SSB to get swing down to 35 watts & you'll notice NO LOSS in audio strength/loudness to get full pep of amp. heck, drop swing down to 20 watts even & STILL see 800 watts pep! MOST of the custom made amps are based on the same original design(whose design-NOBODY KNOWS) & if the person who assembled it was paying attention to what they were doing, you'll get nearly twice the pep of commercially made amps at a comparable price. THEY will USUALLY handle HIGHER swing peaks then commercially made amps, but they are just as particular to INPUT watts-WATCH THE INPUT DEAD KEY! |

I bought the five pill for $319.00. Here is a three pill mobile I bought for $1.99.00. It works excellent. You can see more insides of amplifiers at: AmateurLinearAmplifiers.com

Fat Boy, Davemade, Xforce all do about the same watts.....they are all copies of the original Daves but with very minor tuning differences. Seems that the Fat Boys are a little less expensive and thereby are better values. |
