i read the review on these antennas and others very well done but still one thing wasnt really answered for me.at the same location witch antenna would have the advantage a maco at 36ft at feed point.or a topone at 30ftat feedpoint.in the review different antennas worked better at differnent heights.what i uderstood from the review is a topone will outtalk a maco if boith under 30ft,and the maco will out perform the topone both at 36ft.but what if the maco was 36 at feed point, and the top one was 30ft or less at feed point. |

I contacted Mr. Coily by e-mail to see if he was interested in sending you a enforcer for review. Have to see if we hear back from him... |

FYI- Gizmotchy will be coming out with a Very High Performance 5/8 Ground Plane antenna probably by fall. I own the 4+4 beams and talked to the owner Tom Charles and got some of the lowdown. he is a very nice guy and I dont a problem to send a unit into Tech833 for a Review. Should be a great antenna to go along with the rest of the newly released ground planes. HEY ANTENNA DESIGNERS (maco, Jay, Coily, Gizmtochy, ETC...) keep up the great work on keeping the great aluminum ground plane alive and giving us a alternative to the fiberglass splatter sticks. |

Fiberglass antennas are NOT 'splatter sticks'. There was a bad run of A99's at one time, and I exposed that. They were not soldered inside. Copper printed it in their print catalog and posted it here in a permanent archive article, so they were VERY up front about it. Later models were soldered. However, if you have a splatter problem, begin with the radio and work backwards to the operator. I still highly suggest the Imax 2000 or the A99 for those who prefer easy assembly and a nice low price. There is absolutely nothing simpler with good performance made today. |

Tech 833, I personally have not had good luck with Imax 2000's in my area here in PA. I have owned 3 of them. 1st one carried a high noise floor all the time. I could not hear locals who gave me under 2 1/2 S-units. It caused little RFI problems to neighbors. I had my equipment grounded with a short heavy copper wire to outside ground rod. And antenna was grounded. No GPK. I bought another Imax 2000 cause i couldn't settle the noise level down with everything i had tried. 2nd Imax 2000 was alittle less noisy, but, i still couldn't hear weak signals. No GPK used. Grounded the same as first one. Same radio used as was used on first Imax. Little RFI to neighbors. But, Imax broke in half when it fell while trying to take it down. That was our faults. Bought 3rd Imax, this one was a real splatter stick. Used same radio. No GPK. Destroyed my neighbors with killer RFI problems, only running 2-4 watts. Grounded same as other 2. Tried GPK, didn't help. Imaxs were up 38ft to feedpoint. Except the 3rd one was roughly 31-32 ft to feedpoint. I got disgusted and decided to find a way to put up my I-10K. As you know a I-10K needs a heavier mast than most other antennas need. At least in my opinion they do. Since i talk more local than DX i decided to take my beam off tower and put the metal 5/8 wave up there. May add a Horz Maco beam later instead of the larger both polarized beam. Anyhow, in the mean time i borrowed my uncles Top One antenna and mounted it at 31 ft to the hoop. I was very surprised at the much lower noise floor. Even though the S-units were not as strong as Imax, i could hear weaker signals much better. Top One grounded like i had Imaxs grounded. Same radio. I had no problems with RFI to neighbors even running much higher wattages out of radio. I finally got my metal 5/8 groundplane on my tower yesterday. Roughly, about 39ft to feedpoint. So far, no problems with RFI. Grounded alittle different as its on tower. Way less noise than i recieved on Imax and S-unit signals are stronger on recieve. I tried different ways of grounding and static discharge devices while running the Imaxs. I'm very happy with the setup i have now and thats what i'm sticking with. Metal...LOL... I have heard other people say they don't get much noise from fiberglass. So, maybes it's the area i live in, i don't know. Or the way i had it grounded, didn't work well with the Imaxs. I know one thing, if someone purchases a Imax, the GPK is well worth sticking on. |

though not personally fond of fiberglass base antennas (especially when using high pwr), theoretically they should have less noise from "wind and rain"; since the mobile fiberglass antennas are quieter (for radio noise that is ) in 35 yrs of radioing, i've only owned 1 fiberglass base antenna. "i think" it was called a spider, made by wintenna in the 70's. i got one of the first one's since i was there at their mfg plant a lot buying stuff for the cb shop. it's main advantage was it was broadbanded; otherwise it was a 1/2 wave dipole. did anyone else have one? |

My metal antenna is alot quieter then my Imax was in the rain...Matter of fact its gets dead quiet while raining.Except in thunderstorms. I can hear people now that don't even move my needle. Compared to people had to give me 2 1/2 S-units on Imax to hear them. |

My Imax works perfect. 1.1 vswr no rfi to neighbors 20 feet away at 60 feet in the air. Uh lets see I recieve mobiles up to 50 miles away even at daytime in the rain and so far if I can hear them I can talk to them. 95% of the time I have really zero noise floor except for what is the norm for a sensitive recirver and SSB is pretty much silent unlees I turn up volume high. I never have had a splatter complaint which I feel that would be a radio issue anyway. Regardsless of time of day and any weather except lightning my Imax 2K is King around my neck of the woods. Later on I been thinking about a Mr coily for the heck of it but for the money you cant beat an Imax. At least around hear most people have one or an A99. I would say 75% of bases use them. |

Glad your Imax 2000 works good Hotwire. I'm not putting Imaxs down, they just won't work good around here. My friend who lives more in the country about 4 miles from me tried it and he also got excessive noise. I can't explain it, but, thats the way it is. AIRPLANE1----Nope, i have heard nothing. |

Cool Lon, cant wait for all the goods on the Coily ground plane antenna. I wont buy one cause i`m very happy with my Maco v and dont get to bad weather around here. We do get bad thunder storms but not enough to spend that kind of cash, i`ll take my chances. Just want to hear how they perform and how well there built compared to others. Thanks 833 for doing the reveiw. AP |

I'm interested in the Mr. Coily Enforcer because sometime this fall my tower is going up. (towerman got a new job so this has been put off till sometime this fall). Anyway, I'm currently running an Imax 2000 with g/pkit and I'm very happy. I have it 65ft at base in a pine tree. the antenna is grounded to a ground rod, and I use LMR-400 coax. My radio is a Magnum Omega Force S-45 with the Magnum line noise filter installed. Lots of times I can hardly tell if the radio is on--it that's quiet! Then someone breaks the airwaves and blasts all over the room. My Imax has performed as good as anything I've owned and better than most of the antennas I've ever owned. Overall, because of low swr and broadbanded with very good performance, I give it an A+. But I am not in love the idea of owning an Imax or anything else to the point I am not open minded to new products. Show me a product that does all that it does an s-unit better and I'll buy it. If this Mr Coily turns out to be broadbanded and this much superior to the Imax, as well as easy to put together and install, I will likely buy. Hopefully, I will have all of this information before my tower goes up. Let's keep the good information coming. Mikefromms |

broadbanded the enforcer does appear to be, gent in CT we've been talking with uses up as high as 27.650 & does talk on 26.915 i believe. swrs are 1.0:1 on mfj259b over 30 channels, & no higher then 1.2:1 up & down on freqs he uses. i MUCH prefer my maco v5/8 to the shortlived A99 i had, it sets at 1.5:1 from 26.835-27.555, close enough for my needs. as for $250 for the enforcer vs $75 for the maco, i haven't seen enough proof to spend the extra-YET. from what i heard, the mr coily was marked out of the box, set up as marked & required NO FURTHER ADJUSTMENTS to acquire near perfection... |
