dale, scroll down to the 'wilson 5000, predator 10k, stryker or 102"' thread. my experiences with finding which antenna works BEST for ME compared the predator 10k & astatic 3k to each other, & some other popular antennas. the astatic proved to be a more then capable performer-til i had repeat problems running 300/900 watts. the predator has yet to fail me. i MAKE NO CLAIMS that the predator shows a 5 S-unit gain over everything else out there, in MANY cases there was 'A' difference with the predator proving to be 'better'. BUT, before ANYBODY argues the ole 1/4 wave 102" whip is best BAR NONE-read my last post there. real world, 65 mph, vehicle shape, antenna placement DO NOT make for the 'perfect setting' & comparison test. REAL WORLD & you could probably make a 3' fiberglas antenna outperform a 102" whip. |

i have a 22" shaft double coil, for no other reason then the double coil is a bit shorter then the single coil. there is no difference in performance. they are a bit tough to get tuned, all it takes is a lot of patience & the better part of an undisturbed afternoon! but it's well worth the effort. the man who builds 'em is VERY helpful with problems or questions. has never failed to respond to 1 of my e-mails! |

Dale, I am using one and are getting readings over two S units higher than the 5 ft Firestik I was using before. The 10k is attached to the roof of the 4wd with a 4 pad mag mount which has never looked like moving even when doing 80mph into a 40mph wind. Murray CEF295 |

Here, here, for the predator 10k. I own a 17" shaft double coil myself. Nothing but rave reviews, as far as my signal strength to other mobiles and bases. Wolverine. |

my predator outdid my wilson 2k(sorry, no 5k)in every way imaginable-swr's, rcv & xmit. NO it is NOT a magic antenna. i am NOT claiming 10 db gain(it is NOT a jogunn!). i am not pulling in 4 watt stations straight trip from 500 miles. if the sight of it on your roof is not upsetting to you, i'd swap it for any wilson in a second. |

I like the part where Pat said.."if the sight of it on your roof is not upsetting to you," MY GOODNESS thats a large piece of equipment up there! I like to consider myself well on the way to hardcore but holy MOLY I just don't know about something that HUGE on my roof. A 9ft whip would be less noticeable...and less likey to be stolen. Although around here people would have to be HARDCORE to know what it was! (as if my nieghbors don't look at me weird NOW) Still looking for the perfect gift...for myself. Keep hearing "it's a 10K world" in my head Hank |

take a 2" piece of copper, stainless, aluminum or whatever you want & BEND it & cut it til it's resonant at 27. whatever. it will be even more broadbanded yet, handle even more power yet etc etc. WHERE does water get into the predator? mine has been covered OVER the coils by snow, completely coated with ice & currently has been through 9 straight days & 10+ inches of rain. no water infiltration. nor have EITHER of them loosened up ever. the dual coils shorten the antenna a bit-i have a 10' 6" bridge that CANNOT be driven around, any bigger & i can't get home. with an mfj 259b the mr coily as well as ANY adjustable antenna can be matched to 1.1:1 swr OR LESS at some frequency! my 10k does LESS then 1.1:1 over a large spread of channels, & the coily, being of bigger physical size should do it over even MORE channels. |

my post: 'Posted on Friday, October 14, 2005 - 6:20 pm:' was a reply to a post that has since been deleted. my post was also edited as it refuted a statement made in the deleted post, amongst other things. SO, if my previous post makes no sense, i was NOT drinking. though, maybe i should |
