Got a question...

I do a lot of over the road trucking and was looking into purchasing a cell phone antenna for my rig. I was looking at the Wilson cell phone antenna. Does anyone have any information and/or advise on this antenna or have a recommendation for a better antenna?

Thanks in advance for your input.

It maybe a few weeks before I'll be back, so I'll answer any question upon my return.

Velocity,

WELCOME TO THE COPPER FORUM!

From our 1st Hand Experience with over a million miles of OTR Driving the 1st Sargant and I have tried about ever Cellular Antenna made for Big Trucks.

The Wilson Cellular Trucker Antenna is by far the VERY BEST there is.

It gave us the Best Overall Coverage & Performance of any antenna we ever tried in the US, Canada and Mexico.

Just our personal experience with the Wilson Cellular Trucker.

Hope this helps,

Lon

Hey Lon,

Thank you for the response. After being out on the road for the last several weeks, I have had an opportunity to talk with a lot of other drivers and they too agree that the Wilson is the best way to go. Some even suggested to add the Wilson amplifier to the Wilson cell antenna and really have some serious cell coverage, even in those remote areas where you normally get zero bars on your phone. I guess as soon as the wallet allows, I too will make the large investment in cell phone coverage.

Thanks

Velocity,

The 1st Sargant and I have put well over a million miles in OTR Driving across the US, Canada and Mexico and have never found any better Cell Phone antenna yet.

We have used them on our Pete's and KW's with excellent performance.

The Wilson Cellular Trucker has out performed any other antenna we have ever used or tried.

And when you are stuck in the Middle of nowhere waiting for someone to show up to load you and they are not there and you need to get out, IT WORK's when other's DO NOT!

We were in Miami, OK to get a load of RR Ties one time and had 8 other flatbeds there waitng and No One could get out or a signal and we ended up letting all 8 of them use our Wilson Trucker Antenna and I think about 7 of them stoped at the 1st Truck stop to by one.

I live out in the sticks where cell phone coverage is so-so. With free long distance on the cell phone, we've deleted long distance on our land-line. I've mounted the Wilson cell phone antenna on the eave of the house and run the cable though the window. I get full bars now. I don't know what the trend is elsewhere, but I know quite a few people around here (WA) that have completely eliminated their home phone and live by just cell phones. Anyway, getting off subject.

The Wilson cell phone antenna is a good investment.

A different suggestions on Viking's post...

I'm in the Florida Keys. Get out on a boat, and you'll easily lose your cell after a few miles. Solution:I've used Shakespeare 5227 (first) and 5237 (later) marine cell phone antennas on my boat for 10 years and had excellent service. Both are 8' marine antennas. The 5227 has 6DB gain. The 5237 has 3DB. Here are some actual results.

We were anchored about 9 miles south of Bimini in the Bahamas (about 50 miles east of Miami) a few years back. The other folks on the other boats with us could not even get local cell phone service. I raised my Shakespeare and had no problems picking up service via the towers in Miami.

A year before that I had been out in the Dry Tortugas - 70 miles west of Key West. I couldn't get service during the day time hours, but I could get it at night. At that distance, I was impressed.

And in the event of hurricanes - like today - I've got a permanent mount outside at roof level at my house so I can hook up the cell phone to the external antenna should the landline phone service go out.

So, if you are going to give up your landline and rely on your cell phone, consider these options.
