Has anyone had any experience with the Patriot 12 vertical antenna? It is advertised as a 1/2 wave that is only 12' long and in two sections. The advertising compares it to the A-99. I have seen them advertised for as low as $39.95 and as high as $59.95. The claim is that they will perform as well as the A-99 but are easier to handle and handle wind a lot better. It is also claimed that they will handle the same frequency range. They say is can be "sleeve tuned"[not familiar with the term]. It is made in USA by Procomm. |

As a user of an A99 I am probably a little biased but I don't really see how an antenna 12 ft could possibly work as well as an A99 and mine is in a very exposed coastal location and I don't think too many antennas would handle strong winds better than the A99, mine has stood up to several 80mph storms with no problems. But if I were going to buy another antenna I would buy an Imax or better still one of Jay's i10K's |

I have never used the Patriot antenna myself, but from those I have heard from (based on internet forums) that tried them, they were not real impressed compared to what was advertised. I knew one person (again, on an internet forum) that had run a Wilson 5000 on top of a swamp cooler on their house roof that actually worked. They tried the Patriot and saw no different results. They were dissappointed. --My disclaimer here: Their opinion is expressed here. I have never tried one. I must agree 100% with Oldpirate. His points are my thoughts as well. I think a true 1/2 wave antenna would perform better, a 5/8ths wave even moreso. If you plan on buying a base antenna, I would suggest at least the A99. If money is a factor, a dipole may be better suited. I have never read any positive results from Patriot owners who bragged on that antenna. No facts here, just some "others" opinions to consider prior to purchase. Good Hunting Alsworld |
