Bruce, do you remember the old Cushcraft "Ringo" CB base antenna. Do you or anyone else know anything about it? Was it any good? Thanks. Keith in Atlanta |

SHURE DO!!!!! Im running a 6 meter one right now and have used the 2, 220 and 440 ringos and ringo rangers. There not a bad antenna tech833 said the angle of takeoff was a bit high but I get good results with the 6 meter one. One thing about ringos they have few parts just a tunning ring ..... not much to go bad. |

Wolf Radio makes one. Since this is Coppers site I will not post his address. I don't like the antenna, but it is very effective and shows a strong signal for me. Problem is, it is very sensitive to tune and changes with the height and length of coax as you might expect. You cannot tune it at the feed point as it depends on the coax to balance out the currents. As soon as you add the feed line or raise it up or down the tune goes away. If you tune with a feed line and then check it at the feed point without the line, the tune goes away. It works very well low (12' - 20') to the ground also. So I was never able to get it to any real height with a good tune to see how it worked up high. I have no idea how this jives with what Tech 833 says about them having a very high radiated pattern either. I agree with Bruce on that count. |
