Have a Galaxy 33, with a wilson 1000 looking for an amp, anyone know how the galaxy 250 amp performs. What would I expect to pay for a used one. Have a friend wanting to sell one. Thanks for the info |

if it is one of the galaxy blue faced amps they aren't too bad. Not as good as a texas star or a xforce but they do the job. I mean it is just cb, it probably will do close to 250 with that radio driving it. Don't let your dead key get up to high and you'll be fien. Find someone who can tune your stuff and youll be good. |

I use a Galaxy 225 and a 250. These amps work really good in my opinion. Just remember what Audiophile73 said! A 2 watt dead key is what you want for those amps. Personally I use a 1.5 watt DK. I dont know but it seems to sound better that way! |

I have a galaxy 250 driving it with a galaxy 2527 with a dead key of 1 watt and the max power i can get out of it is 160 watts on high power. Could the pills be weak or something. I have a new dosy test center meter. What do you guys think?????? |

No, that's typical. 160 to 170 watts on average, talking on A.M. Maybe more on sideband. Wolverine. |

Thanks wolverine for the reply. I guess that the old galaxy 250 is working fine then. Is there anything i can do to this amp to fix the side band chattering on the relays. It doesnt like talking side band at all but just fine on am. |

Make sure that the amp is biased for sideband in the first place (Class B), and hit the ssb switch when you need it. Also, try different lentghs of "Jumpers" (Patch cords) sometimes, if they are too long or short, this can make the relays chatter. Wolverine. |

I read you can take out a capacitor (don't ask me which one) to take out the delay or use a different value to change it. I have a new 250HD with about 2 second delay on SSB. Not too bad on AM. What Dead Key will the HD take? I have read up to 12w. I don't want to hurt it. I am doing bout 4w if that. I notice a bigger dead key with more than 2w, up to about 5w no more swing than about 200w. I like it so far, just wanted to ask you guys. |

there is a point of no return-the transistors are the same HD or lo, so output should be relatively close on each amp. therefore, whatever drive it takes to get in that 175 watt range, or max swing without downward swing & then reduce a bit for a buffer, is it. if the lo drive works best with 2 watts & the high drive best with 5-then, that's it! |

I am smart enough to know that I know nothing so..... How much SSB power can I use on this amp? Also, I checked (again) tonight on how much power is going in on AM. Now I know that this is not a Bird meter so with that said...I get about 75W dead key at 2-3W input and swing to probably 175+. At 6W I get over 100W and 200+ swing. I am using a President Lincoln with my max AM power @ 6W. On SSB it swings to about 50W give or take. I am using a Palomar 5000 watt/mod/SWR meter (don't know how calibrated it is). I usually run about 2-3W on AM when talking. This is all on the High side mind you. |

Syklopz,ALL of us have gone thru this we are overjoyed when we unpackage that brand new 250,just to find that it has automatic ssb,if you like ssb and are completely satisfied with the amps output, then you can install a switch and jumper across the cap to eliminate the delay whenever you want to.Now all you need is a schematic or pc-board layout to find the cap.Bigbob p.s. please don't go over 4 watts or you're going to buy a new amp, poof. |
