Does anyone have any ideas on curing static hash which I presume is comming from my Shakespear ABS? I have it mounted on a five meter aluminium mast which is five meters off the ground (that's aluminum & sixteen feet to you good folks!)Will it help if I ground the antenna & how long does the copper peg have to be sunk into the earth??? Many Thanks. |

Animal, Static can occur for many reason's and finding those reason's can be a pain, trust me, I know. Your antenna should be ideally 36' to the feed point and your ground rod should be no less than 6' in the ground 8' being ideal. Hope this help's and I'm sure other's will reply with their view's and suggestion's. CEF443 |

Thanks Coyote, it seems like a process of elimination is the order of the day. I'll try the ground rod firstly and see what happens! |

If you have a Walkie Talkie you can track down static with it sometimes./ Watch out for touch lamps as they can cause havoc./ All kinds of things can cause static./ As for ground-rod, 6-8 ft in ground as Coyote mentioned./ JIM/CENTRAL PA/CEF 375 |

Hey Road, thanks for that tip, I've been deal'n with a very strange type of static/interference for a long time, Its usually between channels 11,12,13 and 14 but its affected as far as channel 16. Its never on all these channels at one time, but can be on either of them. I'll have to use my Cobra 36ST to maybe track down the culprit. thanks |

You can use a walkie talkie inside your home and outside to track down sources of static./ My computer makes the Walkie Talkie go nuts, but, doesn't seem to effect my radio./ But, i have found things inside my home that gave my walkie talkie static & i unplugged that appliance, lamp, or whatever & it made my radio quieter./ JIM/CENTRAL PA/CEF 375 |

Warrior - Great tip! Found a street lamp close by that flickers at it comes on (earlier now due to the dark nights - 4pm) I didn't notice this during the summer months as I'm normally QRT by 8pm and the lights don't come on until about 10pm. Does anyone own a Stihl saw and some heavily insulated rubber boots??? Many Thanks. Steve/Frozen North of UK/26ID-101 |

old cars work good, too, animal. just ram it into the pole a few times, it should fall sooner or later. 60's or 70's big old american iron can even take 'em down on the 1st shot if you get the speed just right. |
