I have the I Max 2000 and have found that it works very well. It went up in about 30 minutes or so. Has the lowest swr of any radio that I have had. I am getting out as far as radios in my town running 100 watts. I am running on just a tunned radio (3.5 watts dead key maybe 10 watts swing) Drives the guys crazy that spent tons on a radio, but have a antron up instead of a I Max. 73 |

Sinner757 Personally, I can't say enough good things about the I-Max 2000. It will easily handle 5000 watts of PEP. 24 feet in length, and a 3 meg bandpass that puts all other antennas to shame. If you are into aluminum antennas, then go with Tech808s suggestion and try the Maco-V. A great antenna but it doesn't have the bandpass of the I-Max which will easily cover 12 through 10 meters. Either way, when you mount them, be sure to have the base at least 30 or more feet from ground level and use a good grade of coax (NOT RADIO SHACK) for best performance. These are unbeatable 5/8 wave antennas. Jeff, kc0gxz. |

757, I have owned and used a LOT of different vertical antennas on 11 meters.those along your line were the original shakespere big stick, old original antron a99,the solarcon 99 and archer crossbow for glass antennas. For aluminum I currently have up a Maco v5/8 ,in storage a homebuilt 5/8 vert both which perform equally well.have used the archer .64,archer1/2 wave, astroplane, sigma 5/8,and the 2 best for last the 27jr and its big brother the super swamper.I have bought, built and used a lot of other types of other antennas but made this list keeping to your original q.To me performance and construction is what I base my choices on.I dont think I live in an area that I would really consider wind servivability.Tornados or ice storms are about the only weather to bring down properly installed antennas here(and our ice storm of 2/2003 damaged a lot of our local's glass antennas and 1 lazerbeam). There are 3 antennas I have told myself I would never part with if I was fortunate enough to obtain again, they are the 27jr,the superswamper and to a slightly lesser degree a Penatrator500.your question of comparison is not really balanced, the 27jr is probly about 25 years old,Imax2000 being new.is the jr weathered?has it been hit by lightening?(it has a matching coil)do you prefer metal or the simplicity of installing the glass ant?One recommendation I would make on the glass antennas is to use a good quality,UV resistant epoxy spraypaint, otherwise in a couple years if you handle it you will be pulling little glass threads out of your hands for a week.Like Twa77 said in his post, since you already have the jr,use it.If the jr is in good condition,I see no reason not to.If it performs well, take the money you would have spent on the Imax and(from Coppers)upgrade to a better quality coax,microphone,etc...or if your using tower mabey add another section. Its hard to upgrade from one of the best performing(my opinion only glass fans)antennas ever made!If all things could be made equal(both new antennas)coax, height, obstructions and radios you probly would not see any difference between the two at all, even on dx. P.S.have you considered regestering and becoming a member of the best 11/10 meter forums found on the internet? |

Thankyou Dindin, I enjoyed reading your post very much,I was hoping to run into someone familiar with the jr27.I will put it up.It does appear to be in very good condition.I set it up on sawhorses 3 ft high and obtained a low SWR and talked a good distance. I have been unable to recieve much info on this antenna ,And was not sure if it had inheritant problems. once again Thank You. |

Cm3885,wouldnt procrastinate to long, potential deals like that dont come along everyday.Seems like I'm always a day late on something like that!Currently near me is a M-104 on 4 sections of tower with what looks like a ham 4 rotor, unused at least 4 years(no coax)Just never seem to catch the homeowner at home.may try leaving a note on his door to call me. |
