skilletlicker I do remember those antennas very well. I never owned one I had several friends own them. I almost had one last summer but the guy moved oh well I guess it happens. Some times I see them on you guessed it E-Bay and yahoo from time to time. 73's cef#189 Len So,Minnesota |

The closest thing to it is the Signal Engineering Thunder 8XB. I have one myself. Do a search of Thunder on this site and read what all has been written. mikefromms |

I have never owned one either, but after a couple of people had one or two, I decided I did not want one. First thing I found out about them, is that they will not handle large amounts of rf power, and will have problems with swr from then own. Second, they use wires from the control box, to the antenna, and there is usually probles with the insulation breaking down on the wire or corrosion issues with the connections. Third, the alumnium and steel bolt issue, the bolts evenually rust away, and the elements fall off. on any outside antenna, I would recomend to use stainless hardware to prevent corrosion problems. As far as performance a quad or a 3 element yagi will blow away a super scanner. I will remeber for a lifetime one of my old cb buddies yealling he was on a set of skanky skanners, and everyone was putting him on hold, at the time he was running a Kenrich eagle 750 with a bushel basket full of spare tubes, oh yes those were the good old days. 73's NNN0WAW/NNN0GAY8 US NAVY/MARINE CORPS MARS |

1. How much power are you talking about over 1KW? 2. They have no SWR problems 3. "Wires from the control box" this is standard rotor cable...no problems 4. Have mine up since 1978...has yet to rust away --------------------------- If you don't have room for both an Omni and a Beam, its a great antenna. Acts like a A-99 in omni position and a 2 1/2 element beam in "beam" position. Very easy to instantly find out what direction a signel is coming from. ------------------------- A 3 element beam is slightly better in gain. Super Scanner is smaller and requires No rotor, and always has an Omni position. |

"As far as performance a quad or a 3 element yagi will blow away a super scanner" Realy? Gonzo is right on traget there is about 2-3 db of diffrence and no rotor needed. Now remember the power limit on CB is 4 watts if the super-scanner will take 800 thats a 200/1 safety factor. Now if you realy need gain get a JOGUNN it will give you audio gain! MARS ? hummmmm intresting sounds like your a ham ....... intresting that you would need over a kw on a cb antenna? |
