I noticed my swr was a little higher yesterday when it was raining. Today, I pulled the magnetic mount up and moisture was collected/trapped under the magnet. I wiped it dry and presto, the swr returned to 1:1. Ever had this experience. What can I do to keep water out from under the magnet? mikefromms |

go to a body mount. magnet mounts though conveinent are not the way to go for a good mobile system. |

Mikefromms I spread a very thin layer of di-electric grease around the outside edge of the magnet, That and a very thin piece of plastic food wrap between magnet and surface. Bullet I totally agree with the optimum being a solid mount. To some the only option available is a magnet mount. I use a wilson 1000 mag mount, mounted as described and have had no problem as of yet. Iron Mask CEF 100 |

So, Ironmask, you don't get moisture under your magnet mount? My mount is on the trunk and there is a slight decline; so water run down and around the mount. It seems there's always some issue with CBs. Enjoying my antenna though. mikefromms |

I slid the antenna up closer to the crack of the hood near the back glass with a slight overhang. It seems to keep it dry this way. Antenna is working fine and unbelievably broad banded with low swr. mikefromms |

If you're going to be leaving the mag antenna in place, why not just run a small bead of clear silicone sealer around the base? It wouldn't be a permanent mount, and can be cleaned off fairly easily with a little elbow grease. I can't say about condensation that may accumulate under the antenna, but this would stop the rainwater from getting under the mount. (Just a thought...) >:p |
