I'm seriously thinking about getting either a Wilson 1000 or an Anttron 1700. I've heard lots of good things about both. I've tried a products search and can't match up a magnetic mount that will fit the Anttron 1700. Can someone help me here? I'd like to buy what I buy from Copper. Another thing, I'd like to hear a littloe more about the Anttron 1700. What are your experiences? One thing that catches my attention is it is 6' long. Opinions please? Oh, I don't want to use a 9' whip--too big. mikefromms |

Mike, Any Mag Mount will fit as the 1700 Is standard 24 thread. Or you can use the Heavy Duty 3 or 4 Mag mount's copper has to offer. For more info on the 1700 go to Search and type in A-1700 or A1700 or Anttron 1700, it has been discussed many time's before here on the forum. You will find a lot of good comment's on it. Lon |

Did the search on Anttron 1700--impressive. I have another question. If I chose to run the A-1700 on the trunk would it have better omni coverage than my shorter Lawson or would I have to put it on the roof? mikefromms |

If your larson is mounted on the trunk now, the A-1700 Mounted in the Same Place should give you better result's. The roof would give you maximum performance but a good Trunk Lip mount will also work well, or put magnet mount in center of trunk. I have found over the years that the A-1700 work's well when Bumper Mounted, Bed Mounted, Roof or Trunk Mounted. The A-1700 is a Very Good performing reliable / durable antenna. Hope this helps. Are we talking about the A-1700? I talked to a friend of mine who was getting out really good on his mobile. In fact, for the distance, his little Cobra 19xs was impressive. I visited with him yesterday and saw that he had a corner bumper mounted 5 ft firestick. I was surprised that antenna could put out the signal it did as most of the antenna was blocked by the back/body of the car when he was transmitting my direction. Anyway, I've got to get something going better than my current mobile set up. It is decent but not great. I've got a Lincoln, so the radio is covered. Just need a better antenna. I know I've hinted at getting rid of the Lincoln but it would take a mighty fine radio for me to trade or sell it. It's got a lot of features I don't see on other radios. Yeap, a longer antenna ought to fit the bill. mikefromms |

Well, before I order everything, I have on more question: Would the V 10-05602 Valor 401 magnet mount work with the A-1700? Could this magnet hold this antenna on the trunk at speeds up to 80 mph? I don't want to spend $50 on a mag mount. I might end up going with a trunk lip mount. Just need a little more direction. mikefromms |

Your answer to the earlier question is, with the antenna in the rear you talk stronger out the front it uses the car as a antenna so to speak. That make sense to you? Like me I mount to the mirrors so I talk mostly side to side. I dont have problems talking by no means but thats the way its suppose to happen. |

Well, I got the A-1700 and am using a 5" mag mount. Haven't tested it's talking ability but this thing has to be the most broad banded antenna in the world! I've never witnessed an antenna with this much bandwideth! 26000 (low as I can go) to 29400 maybe 29550 before I see a 3 swr. Incredible. mikefromms |

Performance has been described as twice as loud as before. "That antenna really lets you get out you sound twice as loud on me." I talked to a base station 15 miles away while driving under wires in town last night. The ear are good and I know there is not an antenna as broad banded as this one. I know it. It's like 3 mhz+. mikefromms |

Mike, Did you have to do much tuning on the antenna? |

Mike, your guidance here. How do you like this new antenna so far? I am running a Wilson 500 versus 1000 due to my car going through fast food stores, parking garages, etc. It is not as tall as the 1000, but does a fine job with my radio. How tall is your set up? I like my wilson 500. Just want to make sure it is best set up for me to use. I am not interested in lip mount, I use mag mount, because sometimes these parking garages are so low on ceiling, and I have to stop and take it off and put into the trunk. Do you like the results so far? Thanks. Keith in Atlanta |

Barefoot, I really didn't have to tune it. I just pushed the rod down as far as it would go and I have miraculous band coverage! My experience is I can go down as far as my radio goes (26000) and go up as far as about 29500 and talk safely. For large of 10 and 11 meters the swr is 1.5 or less and doesn't even show up on some frequencies. Keith in Atlanta, I don't think this antenna would be suited to your needs because it is 6 feet long. I'm going to have to be careful myself to remember to remove this antenna or lay it down at drive-thrus and remove it at car washes. Your antenna is probably just fine for your needs unless you are having some problem that makes you unhappy with it. Not everyone is happy with the same setup. Look at me, I'm probably the only person one here that wants to get rid of his Lincoln to get a Galaxy 93T or 95T. The important thing is that the setup fits your needs and makes you happy. I'm happy with all of my equipment now, but would like to get the 93T or 95T one day. The change from Lincoln to 93T, 95T is just a vainity for me, not a neccessity. I sure do like this A-1700. No regrets with my purchase. mikefromms |

My Lincoln is too new. I can cover up the ugly meter and not think about it when I talk on the radio. I would have to have the same price I quoted you before. mikefromms |
