Heard a couple of guys one night talking about old antennas and one of them was talking about an antenna that he had in the 1970s.. It was a P 500 but it was called a "golden Penetrator 500" He said they only made a few and if you still have one they are rare! Said the antenna was copper golden colored (copper plated aluminum??) and it was supposedly corrosion resistant. Anyone know of this antenna? ive never seen one and never heard of it until i heard those guys talking of it... |

It was gold anodized to protect from corrossion and from salt, for people along the coast, the salt air will eat a regular allumanum ant and for conductivity. |

I still have mine. Was gold colored until better-half helped clean it up when I was setting up: scrubbed the "gold" off!!! But when I put in the air, she talked!! Was a great antenna. It's old and is retired. |

bluecanary25 Lol. I had to walk away from my computer after reading your post. I couldn't stop laughing for a while. I pictured your wife out in the garage working real hard at scrubbing the gold off of your Penetrator 500. Did she do a good job? Lol. That was a good one. Jeff. |

Jeff, She is a wonderful lady, but I bought this antenna before we met. She did not know it was supposed to have the gold color, she thought it had oxidized. While I dug a hole and poured the foundation for my tower, she used a scrub pad and put blisters on her fingers. Yes, she did a great job of getting the color off! 307, if you get that antenna, be careful for the thin aluminum "gamma match" at the base. Sorry, I don't know the name of that part. Best I can get to describe the part. The removing of the color is a true fact, not a story to make you laff.. But glad it let you resonate. 73's again |

I had a Super Penetrator 500 back in "the day". Far and away the best ground plane I've ever had. I got to run a couple of crud tests with the Hy Gain against the Big Stick it was replacing. A real eye opener to be sure, the Hy gain kicked the Big Sticks butt much worse then I would have ever believed. I'll take a cut metal antenna any day. I was gonna put up an Alpha 5/8 but I'm kinda concerned about the water causing SWR problems. 73's |
